It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard from Yishun, but that doesn’t mean that it’s no longer in the running for the title of the “most notorious neighbourhood in Singapore”.
A 77-year-old woman was recently sentenced to ten weeks in jail after she bit a police officer’s arm in Yishun.
Here’s why she bit the officer.
77-Year-Old Woman Sentenced to Ten Weeks in Jail After Biting Police Officer’s Arm
On Tuesday (17 December), 77-year-old Koh Chu Sing was sentenced to ten weeks in jail for biting a police officer. The woman will only start serving her sentence on 4 February next year, after Chinese New Year.
At this point, you may be thinking: “Huh? She bit a police officer? Sure or not?” Yes, you read that right — a 77-year-old woman bit a police officer. The question is why.
Well, the story goes all the way back to April this year.
77-Year-Old Woman and Friends Were Drinking Past 10:30 PM
On 15 April, Koh and two of her kakis were having drinks at the Chang Cheng Mee Wah coffee shop, located at Block 848, Yishun Street 81. You might recall that this was the coffee shop which was sold for $40 million.
Okay, so they were drinking at a coffee shop? So what?
Well, the trio was seen drinking at the coffee shop past 10:30 pm. And if you’re a true blue Singaporean, you should know that the Liquor Control Act prohibits the consumption of alcohol at certain public places like coffee shops after 10:30 pm.
Unfortunately for the trio, the police had received a report about what the trio was up to.
77-Year-Old Woman Refused to Stop Drinking; Bit Police Officer’s Arm Instead
Upon arriving at the coffee shop, the police sought to urge the trio to stop drinking. Koh’s two friends complied, but it was a different story for Koh.
According to 8world news, Koh refused to listen to the police officers. Instead, she asked the officers why she could not drink.
When she then raised her glass to drink, one of the police officers reached their hand out to take the glass away from her. Little did the police officer know that Koh was going to put up her own version of a fight — she suddenly opened her mouth and bit the police officer’s arm.
The other police officers immediately tried to arrest Koh. While Koh struggled and attempted to flee, she was eventually arrested.
The police officer whose arm was bitten later went to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital to be treated. He was given one day of MC.
Maybe if the officer used MaNaDr, they would have gotten a few more days of MC.
