Imagine visiting Paradigm Mall in Johor Bahru and going to the toilet, only to see a pool of blood coming from one of the cubicles.
It sounds horrific, but this is exactly what happened to an individual who was in the toilet at Paradigm Mall, a popular shopping spot for Singaporeans visiting JB.
Woman Found Dead in Paradigm Mall JB Toilet, Case Ruled Sudden Death
On Sunday (19 January 2025), a woman was found dead in the toilet of Paradigm Mall.
The incident came to light when a netizen posted about it on a Facebook group called Thai People in Johor Bahru, as the victim was believed to be Thai.
The post included a photo taken in the toilet, showing a pool of blood on the floor coming from a cubicle, with a pair of white shoes next to it.
The netizen who made the post claimed that the victim had taken her own life in the toilet.
She also shared a photo of a passport belonging to a 30-year-old Thai woman and asked if anyone recognised her, hoping those who knew the victim would come forward.
While the netizens speculated that it was a suicide attempt, the police are urging the public not to speculate as investigations are currently still ongoing.
According to The Rakyat Post, a Malaysian-based publication, the incident gained attention after people at the mall shared their accounts on the social media platform Xiaohongshu.
Several witnesses described their experiences on the social media platform before some of the posts got removed.
In response to the incident, Paradigm Mall issued an official statement on Monday (20 January 2025).
The mall expressed deep sadness over the tragic incident that occurred on Sunday and extended its “deepest condolences” to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
It confirmed that it is fully cooperating with the authorities in their investigation and urged the public to refrain from speculating on any information out of respect for the deceased.
The Case is Classified as a Sudden Death
In a Facebook statement, Johor Bahru North District Police Chief Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh confirmed that the police were alerted to the incident at about 2:30pm on Sunday.
The body of a woman had been found inside the toilet of a mall in JB.
Her identity is still under investigation and her body has been sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for an autopsy.
The police have found no evidence of foul play and have classified the case as a sudden death, pending further investigation.
He also advised the public not to speculate or spread inaccurate information about the case.
At this stage, the case is classified as a Sudden Death Report (SDR).
Other Death Incidents in Shopping Malls
While death cases in shopping malls are rare, this is one of the few incidents that have occurred in the last six months.
On 14 November 2024, a girl, around 14 years of age, died after falling four storeys to the ground in a shopping mall in eastern China’s Shandong province.
She had been standing near the top of an escalator, leaning on an adjacent glass panel, which broke, causing her to fall to the ground.
