Watch: Woman Picked Blueberries from the Floor & Placed Them Back on Shelf

When I was younger, my grandfather gave me some useful advice while we were watching a football game.

“Humans suck.”

Ok, so it wasn’t exactly advice, more of a statement. Also, I’m not sure why he suddenly uttered this phrase while we were watching football. But still, 20 years later, this phrase still rings true.

Humans do suck.

Recent world events have proved this, such as people’s inability to abide by Covid-19 restrictions and George Floyd’s murder.

This isn’t as serious, but it’s still a dick move.

Woman Dropped Blueberry, Picked Them Up 1 by 1 & Placed Them Back on Shelf

When one woman at an NTUC outlet in Junction 8 dropped a packet of blueberries, she had two options:

  1. Inform staff members
  2. Buy the pack so no one else has to eat those dirty-ass berries

Unfortunately, she went for secret option 3: pick them up one by one, place them back in the packet, and put it back on the shelf.

An incredulous bystander recorded the woman’s actions and shared the video with the Facebook page All Singapore Stuff.

At the start of the video, the woman can be seen picking up the blueberries off the floor and placing it back in the packet.

The packet presumably dropped just before the bystander started recording the woman.

After placing all the scattered blueberries back in the packet, the woman closes the packet and puts it back on the shelf.

The bystander who shared the video said:

“Blueberry drop on floor already, auntie just pick up and put it back into box and shelf…why never give to NTUC staff? Poor thing the person who buy that box of blueberry”.

But how do we know that she was the one who dropped it?

Netizen Reaction

Surprisingly, many netizens defended the woman, with one pointing out that it may not have been the lady who dropped the blueberries; she may have been picking up after another inconsiderate shopper:

Several others criticised the bystander who recorded the video for shaming the woman online instead of helping her or telling staff members himself.

Did I miss something? When did netizens get so rational and reasonable?

Online Shaming Has Nothing To Do With Justice

These netizens are right, though.

If the bystander was so outraged by the woman’s actions and felt bad for the the customer who might later purchases those blueberries, why didn’t he inform NTUC staff members instead of posting a video of it online?

It’s the same reason why people post pictures and videos of residents breaking safe distancing rules in public: to be a ‘digital hero’.

See, these people aren’t actually interested in justice, they just want to feel like Batman for a day.

So, what should you do if you see someone doing something wrong or inconsiderate in public?

Simply tell them that what they’re doing is wrong or thoughtless. That’s it.
