Woman Falls Through Gap While Exiting Lift at Indonesia Airport
On Saturday (29 April), a video surfaced on Twitter showing CCTV footage of a woman falling into a gap while exiting a lift at Kualanamu International Airport in Medan, Indonesia.
A quick warning: this video is not for the faint-hearted.

Tanggal 24 April 2023 Tante saya (almarhumah) Asiyah Shinta Dewi Hasibuan mengantar ponakan nya ke Bandara KNO (Medan) untuk berangkat ke luar negri, pic.twitter.com/oShw8rp4sY— Kodok Ijo 🐸 (@Midjan_La_2) April 29, 2023
The woman had gone to the airport to send off her niece and was on her way home when her niece called her back. Her niece had some complications with the airport staff and needed her help.
The 44-second video, dated 24 April, starts with the woman entering a double-sided elevator, presumably on her way to find her niece.
Since the woman had entered from the doors on the right, she continued facing these same doors on the right. However, when the lift arrived at her chosen floor, the doors on the right didn’t open—the doors on the left opened instead.
As her eyes were glued to her phone, the woman was none the wiser to the lift doors opening behind her. Instead, she looked up from her phone at the lift doors in front of her, confused.
We’ve all been there—not knowing which side of the double-sided lift will open on which floors.
The woman then scrambled to the side of the lift, presumably to press the lift buttons on the side panel in an attempt to get out of the lift.

Since the lift doors in front of her still wouldn’t open, she appeared to have been sent into a state of panic, knocking on the lift doors and frantically pressing on presumably the lift buttons on the side panel again.
Claustrophobia acting up yet?
The woman then called someone on the phone, which we later learned was her niece.
Eventually, when the lift doors in front of her did open, the woman took one step out of the lift and slipped into the gap.
Blink, and you’ll miss it.
You know what? We just might be taking the stairs in the next few days…
Body of the Deceased was Discovered Only Three Days Later
Unfortunately, the middle-aged woman named Asiyah Shinta Dewi Hasibuan fell to her death.
Initially, although the family of the deceased’s niece had asked airport security to locate their missing relative, they came up empty. CCTV footage of the incident did not surface until the deceased’s body was found.
Only three days later was the deceased’s body finally discovered below the lift shaft when airport staff came across a stench emanating from the passenger lift. Extracting the deceased’s corpse from below the lift shaft took five hours.
The deceased’s family has since reported the airport management to the police.
