Mothers are a lot of things – while they may nag at you and may always seem to place difficult expectations on you, they are also our biggest supporters and the one who cares for you most.
And no one should underestimate a mother’s ability to turn superhuman for their child.
Although we’re going to need an enormous miracle for the world to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, they can take the form of small ones that keep us hoping.
Just like how this mother managed to pull through for her daughter while in a TADA*.
*TADA is a ride-hailing service. You can learn more about them in our previous post here.
Driver’s Unusual Encounter
In the wee hours of the dawn, ride-hailing service drivers would probably expect to finish up their shift with early birds making their way to work.
However, one 53-year-old TADA driver that goes by the name of Eddie received an urgent call at 5:50am, with the passengers urging him to rush to the hospital.
The call was made from Marsiling Drive and was bound for KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Upon pulling up at the pickup location, Eddie saw a young man desperately running towards the car, opening the door in swift movements.
The young man informed Eddie that they needed to get to the hospital ASAP as his pregnant wife was going into labour.
Although Eddie advised them to call an ambulance instead, the man said that his wife was able to hold out until they reached the hospital.
Just like a game of Crazy Taxi, thus began the race against time to get there.
Baby Started To Make Its Way Out
About 10 minutes into the journey, the cab had reached the Seletar Expressway, where it seemed as if they would make it on time.
However, all of a sudden, the woman shrieked in pain and yelled that she could already feel the baby’s head protruding out.
Eddie had no choice but to turn the signal lights on and speed up, whizzing through the morning rush hour traffic.
Maybe the woman’s baby started to get excited at the thrill of a racing car and couldn’t wait to see the world as soon as possible, for she was coming out at full force.
It wasn’t long before the woman once again exclaimed that half of the baby’s body was already out of hers.
At that moment, Eddie knew that it was unlikely they would arrive at the hospital before the baby was delivered.
It was now or never – so he made a quick decision to exit the highway at Upper Thomson Road.
He pulled over at Springleaf MRT station just in time for the baby girl to be born inside the car. What a ride it was, huh?
Eddie then called for an ambulance outside the car while the couple remained with their child in the backseat.
They were taken to the hospital shortly after.
Well Wishes To The First-Time Parents
As it was apparently their first time as parents, as Eddie relayed, they were nervous and did not know what to do.
The baby girl was thankfully born near the expected date of delivery as well.
Eddie also had to remove the car seat upholstery for cleaning after the messy miracle that happened in his vehicle, resulting in him not being able to drive it for two weeks.
Despite it, Eddie wishes the couple well, and said that if he could contact them again, he would like to give them a gift as he was happy for them.
He also extended his thanks to the medical personnel that assisted them after the birth.
