A 25-year-old woman has been sentenced to 11 months in jail after repeatedly stealing valuable items from her parents’ home, even after they installed security cameras and changed locks to prevent her thefts.

Extreme Measures to Access Parents’ Belongings

According to Shin Min Daily News, Dura Masturina (name transliterated from Mandarin) admitted to one count of theft and one count of violating computer misuse laws in court.

Case details presented during the hearing revealed that Masturina moved out of her family home in August 2022 following a series of heated disputes with family members.

After nearly two years of living separately, she returned to live with them in August 2024.

The reunion proved short-lived in its harmony. Shortly after moving back, serious arguments erupted when her parents discovered she was stealing her mother’s possessions.

These discoveries prompted the family to take protective measures by installing security cameras throughout their home.

On 22 Nov 2024, while her parents were away at work, Masturina saw an opportunity. Her parents had placed their valuable belongings inside a safe and locked their bedroom door before leaving.

Undeterred by these obstacles, Masturina attempted to enter their bedroom with clear intent to steal.

Finding the door securely locked, she resorted to dangerous methods – climbing out of her fourth-floor window and inching her way along the narrow exterior ledge until she reached her parents’ window, through which she gained entry to their room.

Once inside, she methodically looted the safe, taking watches, gold jewelry, and luxury bags.

The total value of the items stolen during this single incident amounted to $15,000. The theft was discovered when her parents returned home.

Lock Changes Failed to Stop Further Thefts

Following this brazen incident, Masturina’s father took more drastic security measures.

He installed completely new locks on their home entrance specifically to prevent her from entering the apartment altogether. However, these precautions proved insufficient against her determination.

On 9 Dec 2024, Masturina returned to the family apartment only to find herself locked out as planned by her parents.

Rather than accepting this barrier, she paid $100 to a local locksmith to gain entry.

She fabricated a story to the unsuspecting locksmith, claiming she had simply forgotten her keys inside the apartment. The locksmith, believing her tale, provided access to the home.

After successfully getting inside, she again made her way to her parents’ room and stole another luxury bag to add to her previous haul.

The court, after reviewing the evidence and her guilty plea to both charges, sentenced Masturina to 11 months in jail for her crimes.
