There’s a sudden surge of name-and-shame cases online, with many people taking to social media to boast about their trolls or shaming certain companies or people when they are unhappy with the service or not getting a satisfying response.
Amongst these cases is a woman who took to Facebook to vent on an “irresponsible” Uber driver. Her post on FB shaming the Uber driver will make you lose hope in humanity.
What she said
Here’s what she posted on UGGroup Partners SG, (closed group): I am looking for Uber Driver xxx. Please respond. Left something in your vehicle on 22 June at 2pm plus. Been trying g to contact you thru Uber till now. It’s not just a piece of cloth. it’s an expensive customised hoodie for my tula. I had to remake one more due to your irresponsible behaviour.
She’s paying to look for the driver
Apart from the weird English or Singlish, let’s take a moment of silence for the poor Uber driver. Some of us may not even understand what she had said.
Not to mention, she even quoted an “SGD 100” below her message. We have no idea what that meant, but perhaps she was stating that she would pay $100 to hunt the Uber driver down – how ridiculous can this get?
Uber driver’s reply
Here’s what the Uber driver had replied along with a picture of the “tula” : No worries xxx it’s safe with me. Sorry for taking so much time to return it to Uber as I was so busy running here and there. So do you want me to deliver it to you personally? Please advice. Thank you.
She didn’t respond
The strange and funny thing is this – the woman who slammed the driver didn’t respond after that. She could have resolved it privately thereafter with the driver, or she decide to leave it because she has already made a new one, no one knows.
Though to be fair, after naming and shaming the driver online, it’s pretty irresponsible of her to leave things hanging without a conclusion, yeah? For your information, a tula is a baby carrier. For your information, a tula is a baby carrier.
Name and shame cases on the rise
With all the name and shame cases on the rise, we have finally realised how ridiculous people can get.
There was just a recent name and shame of a newlywed couple’s wedding photos. They publicly shamed the photographer by posting online about their extremely ugly wedding photos, which many people commented on.
However, the photographer responded by posting the other apparently more decent looking pictures, which the couple had failed to tell the public about. Naming and shaming cases have gone viral and captured the attention of many, which have entertained us, but at the same time ruined someone else’s career or reputation.
What can be done instead
What could these people have done instead of naming and shaming? Taking things into your own hands and shaming people online doesn’t change a single thing – or improve the current situation.
People who are shamed by you are not going to be remorseful just because they were shamed by you; they are just going to be furious or outraged and may return a response equally unfavourable to you.
They could have contacted the company and ask for assistance or advice, and see how they can make things right if they did wrong or didn’t manage to reach their high expectations. #JustSaying
