There are a few memorable things we’ll never forget from TCS: VR Man, Fiona Xie, crushing cockroaches and of course, Wong Li Lin.
The former actress, who’s 45 years old now but looks 25, graced local TV in the 90s, with many remembering her as Inspector Elaine Tay in Triple Nine, one of the best Channel 5 dramas after VR Man (both staring Citibank man).
Since her retirement from the small screen, she has been doing almost everything a person could do: from a Pilates instructor to a boss of a startup.
Then last year, she grabbed headlines as she was appointed to be a public servant, serving the role of an executive director in the Public Hygiene Council.
The Public Hygiene Council is a relatively new organization. It was set up in 2011 to promote good hygiene habits in Singapore.
Despite having no experience in this, Ms Wong took the role, and from the interview last year, she seemed to love it.
But well, less than a year later, everything changed.
3 May 2018 would be her last day in the job, which means that she was in the role for about eight months.
However, the issue isn’t about her departure: it’s about why she has left.
Reports indicated that the Public Hygiene Council declined to comment about her departure, and Ms Wong also refused to comment.
It’s like there’s something going on, but no one wanted to talk about it.
The Facebook Page of Public Hygiene Council hasn’t made any announcement, though they are still active in promoting their events. Wong Li Lin’s Facebook Page hasn’t been active since last year March.
Well, if Public Hygiene Council needs a new head, I think there’s one good candidate who’s available, although he can only make it on 2 August 2018. He’s an ex-general and generally, he should be able to get the work done.
Just make sure there’s no deep-seated cultural issues within the organization.
Now you know what Singaporeans are talking about today; do check back tomorrow for another piece of news of the day!
