A tragic accident in Woodlands involving a BMW and a Myvi took the life of a 29-year-old Malaysian this weekend.
Here’s what happened.
Fatal Accident Involving a BMW and Myvi at Woodlands
On Saturday (21 September), a fatal car accident occurred in Woodlands in the wee hours of the night. At around 1:55 am, a BMW and a Malaysian-registered Myvi collided at an intersection, causing the death of a 29-year-old man.
But how exactly did it happen?
According to Shin Min Daily News, the 33-year-old Myvi driver was making a right turn at the intersection between Woodlands Avenue 10 and Woodlands Avenue 7 and allegedly failed to notice an oncoming BMW.
As a result, the two vehicles crashed, causing the Myvi’s passenger, a 29-year-old Malaysian, to be thrown out of the vehicle. The Myvi ended up in the middle of the intersection.
From videos circulating online of the accident, it also appeared that the rear of the Myvi was severely damaged.
The other vehicle, a white BMW, apparently spun and mounted a kerb, ending up on a grass patch about 50m from the Myvi. The BMW’s airbags were deployed, with the front of the car badly damaged.
Hours of the accident, those driving past the accident site noticed that the hazard light of the BMW was still blinking as well.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), drivers of both the Myvi and BMW suffered minor injuries but refused to go to the hospital.
The last person involved in the accident, the 29-year-old Malaysian thrown out of the Myvi during the collision, was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) added that the 33-year-old Myvi driver was arrested for careless driving causing death.
Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
Deceased was Working Late; Hitched a Ride with a Colleague
The two in the Myvi were allegedly on the way to Woodlands MRT, which is approximately a ten-minute drive from the accident site, to pick up their wives to head back to Malaysia when the accident occurred.
The 29-year-old deceased usually rides a motorcycle into Singapore with his wife.
However, he and his colleague, the 33-year-old Myvi driver, were working late at a nearby curtain installation firm in Sembawang that night. Thus, the 29-year-old decided to hitch a ride with his colleague instead, which unfortunately ended with the fatal collision.
