Everything About the New Woodlands Integrated Transport Hub, The Largest Transport Hub in S’pore So Far

For too long, waiting for a bus in Woodlands has been an uncomfortable task.

You wake up, have the coldest shower possible, and leave the house fresh, but when you finally board the bus you look like you showered with your clothes on, thanks to the heat and humidity.

Air-conditioned bus interchanges have popped up all over the country in the last two decades, but commuters in Woodlands have had to wait a little longer.

Well, now, Woodlanders don’t have to sweat to death while waiting for a bus anymore.

Woodlands Integrated Transport Hub Opens

The Woodlands Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) finally opened yesterday (13 June), to the joy of commuters in the area.

The fully air-conditioned bus interchange replaces the open-air Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange, which had been in operation since 2016.

The new bus interchange, which is below Causeway Point, is linked to Woodlands MRT station, which serves the North-South Line and Thomson-East Coast Line.

Features & Facilities

With an area of 41,500 square metres, the country’s 11th transport hub will be nearly 2.5 times as big as Toa Payoh’s integrated transport hub, which opened in 2002.

The new interchange will have inclusive facilities, such as:

  • Graduated kerb edges as well as barrier-free boarding and alighting areas to make boarding easier for passengers in wheelchairs and parents with strollers
  • Priority queue zones with seats for commuters with mobility needs

The hub offers a nursing room and commuter care room for families with young children and those with special needs as well.

An air-conditioned staff canteen, a staff lounge, and a cleaners’ room have also been included to improve the quality of life for transport

Berths equipped with a blinker-light reverse warning system will also help bus drivers park their buses safely.

4 Bus Services Will Continue to Operate at Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange

While the new bus interchange has opened, the temporary one will remain open for now.

In fact, four bus services—925/925M, 950, 961/961M, and 965—will continue to operate from the temporary interchange.

Earlier, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) explained that it will help to reduce congestion.

“Over the years, both the bus volume and frequency have increased. By retaining WTBI, bus operations can be better spread out and the possibility of congestion is reduced between this facility and the soon-to-be-opened Woodlands ITH,” LTA said.

The other 25 services have been moved to the new ITH.

No changes will be made to the routes of all 29 bus services, however.
