Veteran Actor Wu Mengda Has Passed Away at the Age of 70
Veteran Hong Kong actor Wu Mengda, who has been making audiences laugh for over 40 years, has passed away at the age of 70.
The actor, also known as Ng Man-tat, died in hospital surrounded by his family, reported The Standard.
A close friend of Wu’s, actor Tin Kai Man, told Ming Pao Daily News that Wu was diagnosed with liver cancer late last year and had been receiving treatment in Macau.
He was recently admitted to the oncology ward of a hospital in Hong Kong where he had surgery and was undergoing chemotherapy.
Rumoured to Have Suffered Heart Attack in Jan
Wu also suffered from other ailments as well, including serious heart issues.
In 2000, the actor was diagnosed with diabetes and suffered from heart failure in 2014, according to 8 Days.
In Jan this year, a video of Wu clutching his chest in pain on the set of a shoot made the rounds on social media, sparking rumours that he had suffered a heart attack.
In a recent appearance on a Chinese variety show, Wu revealed that he “has not fully recovered” from his health scare in 2014, and thought he was about to die at one point.

The exact cause of Wu’s death is unknown.
Co-starred With Stephen Chow in Many Movies
Wu moved to Hong Kong from Xiamen, Fujian with his parents when he was 7 years old.
He first garnered attention in 1979 with his role as “Hu Tiehua” in the TV series “The Legend of Chu Liuxiang”.
But he’s best known for his roles in movies with comedian Stephen Chow, such as The Final Combat, The Justice of Life, and Shaolin Soccer.
The duo also co-starred in television shows such as “The Hero” and “He Comes From the Rivers and Lakes”.

The pair’s comedic chemistry was evident right from the get-go, and they went on to become one of the most successful comedy duos in the Hong Kong film industry.
In 2019, Wu starred in the science fiction film The Wandering Earth, which is China’s third highest-grossing film of all time and the third highest-grossing non-English film to date.
This film is the last film Wu made before his death.
The veteran film star will be sorely missed.
