The IoT, or Internet of Things, has drastically changed people’s lives.
Back in the past, if you want to be a celebrity, you’d have to risk your everything, attend acting classes and join countless auditions. You’d have to start off as an extra with no lines – just ask Andy Lau.
But with Facebook and YouTube, you can easily get yourself onto the screen and get discovered.
And even if you were never discovered, you might be able to earn enough from doing that full-time. Provided you work hard enough lah, that is.
Remember the best Singaporean FB live seller that made the internet headlines a week ago?
She reportedly signed a 2-year contract with Mark Lee’s production company.
Here’s a Flashback In Case You Don’t Know What We’re Talking About
Previously, we wrote about this Ah Lian FB seller who might have a PhD in selling stuff.
Her online fame started when she gave an impromptu (or maybe it’s rehearsed a few million times – you never know) sales pitch about the famous S-hook T-shirt.
But of course, that wasn’t enough to propel her to online fame yet. Like what my boss always say, “One-time warrior would always stay as one-time warrior.”
She then did the same thing with a dress that she was selling.
She asked customers above 162 cm not to buy the dress because “your chances of giving people to see your kacheng neng teh bah (backside) is very high, 80% high, so please consider if you’re 162, or 160 and above.”
And when they walk, they cannot “open big big”, or “your luncheon meat, your seaweekd all come out give people see”.
Here’s what my colleague had to say about this video: if you’re ever having a bad day at work, or just broke up with your gf, just watch her videos. You’ll cheer right up.
And with these two videos, it blasted her into starville almost overnight, with even Ikea jumping on the bandwagon.
It’s just a matter of time before she got spotted by mainstream media, and let’s just say it’s fast AF.
Because earlier this week, we finally hear her voice in the radio.
Joked on YES 933
Ah Lian seller, who real name is Lerine Yeo, conducted an interview on national radio YES 933, during which she joked with the DJ and revealed that she knows Hokkien well, and learned the gift of the gab by thinking of her mother, who often scolded her.
Cute.
Last I know, YES 933 even used snippets of their interview to promote their morning show soon after, showing how much of an influence she has.
But moving on…
Best-est FB Live Seller Visits 97.2FM, Sells Their Umbrella For Them
YES 933 isn’t Lerine’s only taste of mainstream media: two days later, she went live to 97.2FM.
Yeah, not a phone interview but a real, live one.
In the Facebook live video, when songs were played and the DJs were off-air, Lerine also revealed that she stayed in Yishun.
Yeah, I know that isn’t important, but anything with Yishun deserves a mention #justsaying
She was then asked to sell local Chinese radio station 97.2fm’s leftover umbrellas.
And the way she did it left the DJs breathless with laughter.
First, she subtly insulted the DJs for being unable to sell the umbrella. Then, she went on to talk about how the umbrella is good for “hanky-panky”.
And of course, she had to show people how they can hook the umbrella on their bodies.
Her sales pitch, made in completely non-standard English is a breath of fresh air. Plus the way she nagged makes you want to listen to her.
Something your mom was never able to make you do.
Well, it seems like her short stint at the radio station has impressed the DJs. Specifically Mark Lee.
So impressive he decided to offer her a contract with his company.
“She Reminds Me of a Younger Patricia Mok”
According to a report by Shin Min News Daily, Mark Lee was quoted as saying that Lerine Yeo reminded him of a younger Patricia Mok.
He felt that she has a “very natural sense of humour”, and is quick-witted and able to “switch between English, Mandarin and Hokkien seamlessly”.
He decided to sign a two-year contract, plus another two years with Lerine Yeo as a trial period for both parties.
Nice.
Mark Lee’s Company
Lest you’re not aware, Mark Lee isn’t just a host and a DJ. He run several businesses, and two of which are talent management and a production company that also publish new media contents.
Like this:
Yeah, kind of like Michelle Chong.
It’s not certain which company Lerine is signed to, but I bet all my boss’s assets that we would be seeing her in King Kong Media Production videos very, very soon.
