If it weren’t for the Bicentennial S$20 notes, you probably wouldn’t know about S$20 notes existing unless you’re old enough.
Of course, if you were a long enough reader you might have seen that already since Bicentennial S$20 notes are old news.
Or, even be disappointed that you weren’t able to get some of those notes because they were out of stock.
But don’t fret.
Online Application For Bicentennial Note Now Open
You can apply directly here, limited to 10 notes per person and can be exchanged at any of the 9 major banks. Two million pieces of the notes will be released and available for exchange at face value.
You’ll be required to make the exchange at the bank branch you selected on the online form.
If your application is successful, you will receive notice by 3 November 2019.
But then now you’re thinking: last time also two million pieces, no stock again then my application how?
These were the notes so hot in demand that Goh Chok Tong managed to auction his three-in-one uncut sheet, that was originally sold for S$280 with 5,000 sets in circulation, for S$36,199.
Like, we were taught that S$20 is just S$20, but now you’re telling me that there is fancy-pancy S$20 that might be worth more than S$20, and then there’s my regular-old peasant S$20? I also want leh!
(Check certain reselling platforms if you don’t believe me. There are listings up to prices like S$988 or S$1,688, though we don’t know if people actually bought them.)
So here’s the thing:
MAS Will Allocate At Least One Note To Every Applicant
MAS hears you and decided that all applicants should have the opportunity to get the note.
The caveat is that applicants might not get the full number of notes they apply for.
Yeah, so as long as you apply you get one of those fancy-pancy S$20.
Pioneer and Merdeka Generation Get Priority
Makes sense, since Bicentennial is about the commemoration of our history, and who more relevant to the history other than people in those generations?
Applicants who need help applying, but have internet access on their mobile can get help at any of the 108 community clubs.
Those with neither a computer or internet access can get help at Citizen Connect Centres at 25 community clubs and Our Tampines Hub. (In which case, you probably wouldn’t be reading this)
Remaining Notes Will Be Made Available Without Online Application
Going by the response of the previous exchange, this is unlikely to happen. But should there be notes that are not yet exchanged, then those will be made available to the public without the need for any kind of online application.
