In all the years of advancements and technological marvels we have achieved as a species, sometimes the simplest and most effective tool is just a stick.

The bamboo pole, in particular, can be used as a clothes hanger, beating your children, a construction material for houses, used to make noodles or eat noodles, or in sexy times you can even want to use it for pole dancing.

Editor: Hold up a few of these are not like the others.

There’s a reason why Sun Wu Kong’s weapon is essentially just a stick.

And it’s apt that this incident happened in the west.

Python Spotted At Jurong West Blk 822

And in case you think S’pore has advanced to the point where we the only animals we should be finding in our metropolitan city are pets, you’d be wrong.

It’s a case where pythons were creeping to our HDBs because we’ve taken away their forest homes. But hey, I guess it’s not like we can blame them. In particular, Jurong West sees them pretty commonly.

So what happens if we DO spot them? The logical thing to do is to call the Acres wildlife rescue hotline for help at 9783 7782, or perhaps contact NParks at 1800-476-1600.

And we’re only putting that PSA in front, cause we know you’re going to clap for what is about to happen.

Cause we did.

Either way, definitely don’t do what you’re about to see cause it’s actually a stupid thing to attempt yourself.

Going Back To The Kampung Days

The original video was posted on Facebook at The Alchemists Design. Faced with the snake, the guy(s) in the video didn’t just call the authorities.

And actually, it wasn’t just the boy at the spotting of the python. It was a whole group of people with at least a few aunties and some other guys looking at him taking the pole to the python.

By the way he did it, you’d think this guy was an expert; calm, calculated and composed.

He started off by using the bamboo pole to bait the python, to which the python grabbed.

But there weren’t any sophisticated tools, no. It was just the same tools back in the kampung days. Just a bamboo pole, a cloth, and a box.

And the trusty skills of a heroic boy.

He tossed the cloth over the python’s head, and the reptile didn’t let go.

An opportunity was all the boy needed.

In the box, the reptile goes.

And the reward for the act of valour is the slipper of an auntie.

The python was later handed over to Mastermark, a wildlife management specialist.

Even though it was probably a stupid move, we can’t help but be impressed by how easy it looked.

Or maybe the guy is actually an expert, we’re not sure. Either way, don’t attempt to do this yourself if you do happen to see a snake.
