Youths Allegedly Film Themselves Pushing Elderly at Orchard Claim It’s ‘The Greatest Content’

The teenage brain is a curious thing.

The natural inhibitions that prevent most of us from doing dumb things seem to be absent from many teenage brains (including our own when we were younger).

The adolescent brain has one purpose, and one purpose alone: to win the admiration and respect of its peers.

While some of the dumb things youths do require no more than a swift roll of the eyes and a softly muttered “Aiyoh”, other actions are harder to overlook.

Youths Allegedly Film Themselves Pushing Elderly at Orchard Claim It’s ‘The Greatest Content’

A video of several youths skating in Singapore has made the rounds on social media.

It wasn’t because they were particularly good at skating or anything.

Rather, it went viral because the clips of them skating were interspersed with videos of them assaulting an old man and zooming in on unsuspecting women.

The video, which was first uploaded by the makers of the video, was later reposted to the Twitter account sg.trending, where it was shared over 1,100 times.

The video, which looks like it was edited by someone who just discovered Final Cut Pro, mostly shows a group of youths skating around Singapore, accompanied by some obligatory music.

What irked netizens, however, was a few short clips in between showing them pushing an old man in what appears to be an altercation outside The Cathay at Dhoby Ghaut.

The argument seems to be about the group skating in that area, as the elderly man says “This is not your private property” to the group.

“It’s not your f**king property too, what the f**k!”, one of the youths replies aggressively while pointing a finger in the man’s face.

“Get your white hair outta here, Santa Claus-looking a**”, another said, as the old man walked away.

Before the quarrel, one of the youths shoved the elderly man, and later tried to smack the phone out of his hands.

They also slapped the back of the man’s head as he walked away.

If that wasn’t infuriating enough, they zoomed on the back of two passing women at one point in the video, presumably without their consent.

Netizens’ Response

Netizens were disgusted with their actions, to say the least.

Group’s Response

One commenter posted a screenshot of an Instagram story that defended the video, purportedly from one of the youths involved.

“My videos are not for everyone”, he said at the start of his post.

“Like I always say, 2020 is now filled with sensitive a*s people but thats (sic) fine”.

He thanked his apologists, and said that “any publicity is good publicity”.

He added that the Twitter account who reposted his video should thank him for the clip, as it was the “greatest content” he’s ever made.

Yes, some badly edited clips of teenagers skating mingled with an assault on an old man will soon be studied by the likes of Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese.

It’s unknown if the old man suffered any injuries, or whether he’s reported the incident to the authorities.
