If you’ve come to our app daily, you’d know about the unfortunate death of a 14-year-old girl in China, whereby she followed a DIY popcorn video but it exploded in her face, killing her soon after.

According to various reports, the girl, together with her friend, was allegedly attempting a copy a video posted by a popular YouTuber from China, who runs the channel “Ms Yeah Official Channel”.

Her friend suffered a few burns, but she was not in critical condition and managed to pull through.

Netizens however think that they were following other videos, as Ms Yeah has used a teapot warmer to heat up the corn kernels in a can, while the girls used two cans, with one cut in a peculiar way, and an alcohol burner instead.

Nevertheless, some netizens were relentless and went on to call Ms Yeah a “murderer”.

For your reference, this is Ms Yeah’s video (this is a re-upload by someone else as her original video has been taken down):

Ms Yeah broke her silence five days after the girl’s demise, calling it the “darkest moments of her life”, but also mentioned that the girls could have been following instructions on other videos instead.

A check on YouTube revealed tons of videos on this topic:

Nevertheless, Ms Yeah claimed that she’s not making any new videos, and that seemed to be true: her latest video was posted on 6 September 2019, and she’s often posted one video a week.

As of now, she has about 7.5 million subscribers.

Contacted Girls’ Families

Despite Ms Yeah’s denial of her involvement, Ms Yeah, whose real name is Zhou Xiao Hui, is paying the girls’ families an undisclosed amount.

Her representatives met up with the girls’ families, and Ms Yeah is also paying for the other girl’s hospital bills, as the girl has, according to her father, incurred high hospital bills, and required cosmetic surgery due to the burn marks.

A check on Ms Yeah’s last video showed that many people were still supportive of her.

It’s unknown what the 25-year-old online influencer’s future plans are; she has been silent once again after her last statement.

The YouTuber is popular not just for her creative ways to cook, but her deadpan expression as she cooked in an office.
