Veteran Singapore actress Zoe Tay announced the death of her mother on 1 Dec 2025 through an Instagram post.
The 57-year-old actress, known as the “Ah Jie” (Big Sister) of local television, wrote a tribute in Chinese expressing her grief. “She never expressed her love, but poured love into every little moment of her daily life,” Tay wrote in the post.
“With her lifelong kindness, she taught me to treat the world gently. May you rest in peace, mum. I am missing you silently every day.”
Tay’s Tribute and Past Reflections on Her Mother
The actress included several hashtags in her post, including #MissingYou, #GratefulForYourNurturing and #TheGiantInMyHeart.
Her mother had turned 88 earlier in 2025. On 30 Jun 2025, Tay had commemorated her mother’s birthday with an Instagram post that read: “Happy Birthday to my dearest mummy. Love you so so much.”
In a 2021 social media post, Tay had shared her admiration for her mother who raised her and her siblings single-handedly. “A woman figure whom I look up to is definitely my mom. Apart from her work, she didn’t have anyone to help her with house chores, and had to raise my siblings and I all on her own. Yet, she never once complained about it.”
Several celebrities left condolences in the comments section of her announcement post. They include actress Xiang Yun, television host Guo Liang, actor Chew Chor Meng and radio DJ Glenn Ong.
