Malaysian coffee chain operator Zuspresso Sdn plans a major expansion across Southeast Asia this year, with nearly 200 new Zus Coffee outlets set to open in the region.

The company will establish at least 107 new stores in Malaysia and about 80 in the Philippines, according to Chief Operating Officer Venon Tian in a recent Bloomberg interview.

Zus Coffee will also add six more locations in Singapore while launching its first stores in Thailand and Indonesia by 2025.

This expansion push comes after Zus surpassed Starbucks in early 2024 to become Malaysia’s largest coffee chain. The company currently operates 743 stores in Malaysia, compared to Starbucks’ 320 outlets.

“It’s about how we make quality coffee accessible to most people,” Tian said, explaining the brand’s core approach driving its regional growth.

Regional Presence Strengthens

Beyond Malaysia, Zus Coffee currently runs approximately 120 stores in the Philippines — backed by investment from Filipino billionaire Frank Lao — and four locations in Singapore, alongside a franchise presence in Brunei.

The coffee chain only entered the Singapore market in October 2024 with its first outlet at Changi Airport Terminal 4.

Its second Singapore location opened at Westgate mall in January 2025.

Financial Growth and Business Model

Zus Coffee has shown strong financial performance, with net income tripling to RM37 million (approximately S$11.2 million) in 2024.

The company started as a kiosk focused on coffee delivery via its own app in late 2019 and quickly gained traction.

“COVID accelerated our business model,” Tian noted, referring to the boost from pandemic lockdowns that drove online deliveries.

Currently, about 70 per cent of Zus Coffee’s sales come from online channels, including deliveries and pickups.
