This used to be the routine for every 90s kid: there would be nothing much to do on a Friday night (no Facebook, no Instagram and most importantly, no YouTube), so he would sleep early because Saturday morning would be gold.

Like, real gold.

There would be a number of animated series from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.—it was almost like every kid back then would be glued to the TV during this period. While there are still kids’ shows during Saturday and Sunday mornings now, most kids would have turned to their iPads or computers instead.

If you’re a 90s kid, you’ll remember these series.

X-Men

To a 90s kid, Wolverine wears a tight yellow suit, Jean’s costume is the weirdest thing in the world and the music is all it matters. You can’t miss an episode because the series has story arcs that require you to watch them in chronological order.

Power Rangers

Not those in ninja suits or weird creatures hybrid, mind you. We used to watch the original Power Rangers, known as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Every episode has the same plot, and every time, the combined Power Rangers toy robot wtf-is-it-called will only draw its sword after being hit like million of times.

And here’s one thing only 90s kids would understand: buildings are made of styrofoams.

Pokemon

This is why we always say: Pokemon GO players who say that they’re hardcore fans aren’t the real fan–old fans are like us used to play the Game Boy Pokemon and watched Ash battle other gym leaders with Pikachu.

十萬個為什麼

This used to be our Google. And in the 90s, Google came to us; we didn’t get to Google what we want.

Pinky and The Brain

Up until today, this is the only show that I just can’t remember what it is all about, but still have fond memory of watching every episode. The 90s was a weird period.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

90s kids take their superheroes very seriously–toy stores would sell TMNT shells, weapons and even masks. And every kid will buy them. We didn’t buy costumes within apps–we bought the real costumes and paraded them in our void deck.

Teletubbies

Come to think of it, they look kind of creepy now. But back in the 90s, they were the cutest things in the world. And yes, that grey thing on their belly is a TV, a device that is as old as them.

The Magic School Bus

Everyone used to learn how the digestive system works by taking a trip with the yellow magic school bus. Really.

Doraemon

Guys, admit this: you used to open your drawer every morning and hope that a robot cat would jump out. We were then so obsessed with this robot cat that videotape stores (kids, shut up) would have many Doraemon tapes rented out, and we have to reserve them.

Spiderman

We know about Peter Parker before he makes his way to the big screen. And we even know about his other girlfriend, Felicia. Bet kids nowadays didn’t know that, eh? And Felicia is a clone. Oops, spoilers for a show that ended almost 20 years ago?

Batman

Before Batman became so dark, it was…darker. And we were always hoping for a “To be continued…”, because it meant it would be a story arc, and 90s kids love story arcs.
