Posture
Posture is very important when you are singing. Make sure that you are standing and balance your weight on both legs. Your head must be slightly looking downwards and your neck muscles must be relaxed.

Do not use unnecessary muscles in your body while singing
Do not tense up your hands and leg muscles. Neither should you tense up your stomach muscles. Just breathe normally through your nose and do not breathe in extra hard to stretch your stomach muscles.

Open your throat
We are not asking you to cut open your throat! By opening your throat, we mean that you need to open the space behind your mouth so that air will flow smoothly in and out of your lungs when you sing. The trick to open your throat is very simple. Just yawn when you are talking and you will be able to open your throat for great singing

Focus your voice at your face
When you sing, you need to focus the voice at the face. If you focus it too far, you cannot sing well because the voice is now “too stretched”. If you focus it too near, like at your mouth, it is too close and cannot be loud. The ideal focus is somewhere above your nose but it differs from person to person. The best thing to do is to try it out until you get it right.

Breathing
There are 2 ways to breathe when you sing – at your lungs or at your stomach (diaphragm). The better way is using your diaphragm as it aids you in making your singing steady and strong.

Practise, Practise, Practise
Always practise singing in your best voice. Try to sing at your best each time and when you find a tone/pitch that you are comfortable with, practise it. It will help you to become familiar with your own voice and you can sing comfortably after some time without stress.

Changing Tone
When you are changing pitch or tone, make sure that you are doing it gradually and not switching it suddenly. The higher the note, the bigger you should open your throat (not your mouth). The more air that passes through your throat and your nose, the more natural your voice will be. Allow your voice to go from soft to loud when you are going up on a high note.

Do not open your mouth wide open when singing high pitch
Adding to the previous point, do not open your mouth wide when singing high pitch. The bigger you open your mouth, the more air it let go. It will cause your note to waver and might end up not hitting the note afterall

Go up and down a pitch smoothly
Always go up and down a pitch smoothly by gliding along with the notes. Do not jump from one pitch to another.

Be aware of how to stretch your voice
Your voice is like a rubber, it can be stretched and it can be compressed. Be aware of that and when you sing, stretching your voice will help you to reach high notes easily. If you do not know how to stretch your voice, your high note will not be executed perfectly.

Do not be afraid of singing softly
Do not sing loudly for the sake of singing loudly. Soft singing is beautiful and it should be admired for the tactics of singing softly and beautiful.

Keep your lips close to each other when singing a long note
When you sing a long note and need to hold it for a while, keeping your lips close to each other will prevent your breathe from going out of your mouth quickly. This will preserve the length of your breathe and allow you to execute a long and smooth note.

Do not use strength when singing
Flow where the notes go. Do not use strength to sing like you are carrying the notes. Instead, flow with the notes and sing loud and soft when needed.

How to sing the high end note
Sing your end note by first breathing in, then softly sing out the note before finally going louder at the end of the note.

Keep every word and end note at the same level as your focus point on your face
You should keep every word and end note at the same level as your focus point to make sure that your end note do not waver when you end the song.

Do not curl your tongue or move it excessively
Curling or moving your tongue excessively will cause your voice to change. It will ruin your perfect pitch to the song.

Let your voice out, do not hide it in your throat
Our voice must be let out instead of letting it stay in the throat. This is why opening your throat is very important. Your voice will sound natural and smooth when you have let it out whereas it will sound really strangled if you let it linger in your throat.

Sing smoothly
Let your notes glide smoothly up and down. Do not make sudden big changes to the pitch and notes of the song.

Make sure your mouth move naturally
Make sure your mouth is moving naturally like you are talking when you sing. Having excessive mouth movements or making unnatural movements will cause your song to fail.

Practise your long notes
Practise your breathing and long notes at home. Breathe in through the diaphragm and hold your breath while you sing the long notes out. Practise it long enough and you can perfect your song anytime. Try it the next time you have a K-session with your friends and see how it goes!
