Did you know that an Australian man named Joshua has won a 16 room Pacific Island resort just by buying a raffle ticket worth US$49?

The winner of the raffle ticket

Yes, this is true! The man from New South Wales had bought a raffle ticket after coming to know that a couple who own the resort would like to use the raffle ticket system as a way to sell their resort in Micronesia.

The raffle tickets were snapped up by people all around the world and Joshua is the lucky winner of the resort.

Hoping for someone to bring the resort to greater heights

Ahead of the lucky draw, the co-owner of this resort, Doug Beitz said he hoped that the winner would be “someone who likes warm weather, meeting new people from around the world, is adventurous”.

He hopes that the winner is a like-minded individual who will bring the lodge to greater heights.

The owners of this 16 room resort named Kosrae Nautilus Resort in the Pacific Island are Doug and Sally Beitz. They moved to Micronesia and built this amazing resort back in 1994. Incidentally, they are also Australians.

In recent years, they felt the call of home after more than two decades living away from home.

The raffle ticket system

The couple’s initial plan was to sell the resort in the traditional way but one of their sons came up with the raffle ticket idea and the family decided to go ahead to launch this idea after deciding that they will still get their deserving amount out of the ticketing system way.

The winning ticket was drawn by a computer on 23 July with the number 44,980. Joshua, as the holder of this ticket number, then became the winner of the resort.

To take over the resort in coming months

Mr Beitz contacted him immediately but was unable to do so initially, but later on finally contacted him and gave him the good news.

Joshua will take ownership of the resort which is debt-free, profitable and has more than 20 years left on its lease.

Nothing more was known of Joshua except that he is an Australian from New South Wales.

More information will hopefully be released after he has formally taken over the sea-facing Kosrae Nautilus Resort in the coming months.
