A couple of days ago, Prime Minister Lee said Singapore was “on track” to bring its recent community COVID-19 outbreak under control.
Two days later, it looks like this statement is holding up pretty decently.
15 new community cases were reported yesterday (1 Jun), and no new clusters were identified. However, seven of the infections were unlinked.
Here are the details.
Unlinked Cases Include A Hotel Staff Member & A Delivery Rider
The seven new community cases with no established links are:
- A 56-year-old female Singaporean who is a homemaker
- A 37-year-old female Singaporean who is a resident at MINDSville@Napiri
- A 72-year-old male Singaporean who is employed by SMN Elite Security Services as a security guard at Shriro House (11 Chang Charn Road)
- An 82-year-old male Singaporean who is a retiree
- A 46-year-old male Singaporean who works as a front desk staff at Hotel Boss
- A 29-year-old male Malaysia national who works as a carpark roving officer at TOP Parking Pte Ltd
- A 26-year-old male Malaysia national who works as a delivery rider for Pizza Hut (Hougang Green)
The Hotel Boss employee developed a fever and cough on 30 May and sought medical treatment at a polyclinic the next day.
There, he was administered both an Antigen Rapid Test (ART) and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test, and was immediately isolated when his ART test result came back positive.
His PCR test result came back positive as well on 31 May, while his serology test result is pending.
The 46-year-old received his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on 1 May, and the second dose on 27 May.
The Pizza Hut delivery rider was tested for COVID-19 on 26 May as part of the Ministry of Health (MOH)’s special testing operations for delivery riders working in Hougang, and his test result was negative.
He then developed a fever, cough, chills and loss of taste on 31 May and sought medical treatment at a GP clinic on the same day.
There, he underwent both an ART and PCR test and was immediately isolated when his ART came back positive for COVID-19.
His PCR test result came back positive the next day. His serology test result is pending.
Hong Ye Group Cleaners Cluster
The Hong Ye Group cleaners cluster continues to grow, as a 17-year-old Singaporean was linked to other cases in the cluster yesterday.
The woman works at Ang Mo Kio – Thye Hua Kwan Hospital (AMK – THKH), and had last gone to work on 28 May.
She is a close contact of a previous case and developed a fever and sore throat on 30 May.
She did not seek medical treatment until 31 May, however, when she visited a GP clinic and was tested for COVID-19.
Her test result came back positive on the same day, while her serology test result is pending.
Tektronix Cluster
One new case has also been linked to the Tektronix cluster, namely a 39-year-old Singaporean homemaker.
She was placed on quarantine on 25 May after being identified as a family member and household contact of a previous case.
She was tested for COVID-19 the next day during quarantine and her test result came back negative.
She then developed a fever on 31 May and was again tested for COVID-19. This time, her test result came back positive. Her serology test result is pending.
3 Existing Clusters Grow
Three other existing cluster had one addition each reported yesterday (1 Jun).
A 29-year-old female Malaysia national was added to the cluster linked to Case 63399, a 35-year-old male Malaysia national who is a kitchen crew at Kota Zheng Zong Bak Kut Teh (Serangoon Gardens). She works at Chir Chir Restaurant (Bugis Junction) and was last at work on 15 May.
The Case 63660 cluster also had one new case added to it yesterday, namely a 2-year-old female Singaporean who is a student at Carpe Diem (2 Ang Mo Kio Drive). The student was last at school on 14 May. Case 63660 is a 31-year-old male Singaporean who works as a property agent with ERA Realty Network Pte Ltd.
A 28-year-old Malaysia national who works as a waiter at Acid Bar Pte Ltd was also linked to the Case 63743 cluster. He was last at work on 16 May. Case 63743 is a 24-year-old male Malaysia national who works at McDonald’s (The Woodgrove).
Case 63887 Cluster
The cluster linked to Case 63887, who a 65-year-old female Singaporean homemaker, recorded two more infections yesterday.
They are:
- A 4-year-old female Singaporean who is a student at My First Skool (332B Anchorvale Link)
- A 27-year-old female Malaysia national who is a homemaker
Besides this, a 30-year-old Singaporean who works as a technician at ST Engineering Innosparks was linked to a previous case but not to any of the known clusters. He is a family member and household contact of a previous case.
3 Imported Cases
In addition to the 15 community cases, three imported infections were reported, namely:
- Three Singaporeans who returned from India and the Philippines
- One Short-Term Visit Pass holder who arrived from the Philippines for a work project in Singapore
All three cases had been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) upon arrival in Singapore.
217 Cases in Hospitals
At the moment, there are 217 confirmed COVID-19 cases still in hospitals, most of home are stable or improving.
Two are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Another 338 cases with mild symptoms and lower risk factors are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
22 more cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities recently.
