Okay, I think it’s an open fact that the people living in Bukit Timah are pretty well to do since the prices of their property are soaring high. But hey, this doesn’t mean that their food prices are equally expensive. When friends ask me what’s good at Bukit Timah, my mind will immediately drift to either Bukit Timah Food Centre or the Al-Azhar menu – the latter is one of the best spots for supper, btw.
If you are one who is always fretting about what to eat around the area or have no reason to visit that estate, we will show you why it’s worth travelling down.
1. Al-Azhar
Al-Azhar clearly needs no introduction. The popular Indian-Muslim eatery along Bukit Timah has garnered a strong following over the years, and the best part? It’s open 24 hours. With over 100 dishes on the Al-Azhar menu of various cuisines – Western, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Zi Char – there’s bound to be something for everyone. And while you are there, we highly recommend you to try their Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan.

2. Kampong Chicken Rice Chicken House
Not your average restaurant selling chicken rice. Kampong Chicken Rice Chicken House is one of the most reputable restaurants in Singapore that solely using kampong chicken – with tender, leaner and juicier meat with paper-thin skins that deserves a shout out. Every aspect of the dish is prepared meticulously and with quality – down to the rice used.

3. Mookalicious
You’ll be able to spot the bright pink Mookalicious from a distance, and it is also the only Mookata stall around the estate. The Mookata stall does not have a buffet in place, but most people still flock to them for their assorted platters – quality over quantity, right? Else, you can also opt for a la cart ordering and prices range from S$1.90 to S$5.90.

4. Revelry Cafe
Revelry Cafe boasts a menu with a plethora of sweet and savoury waffle dishes. We love the cafe for its fun and upbeat circle-themed ambiance, and the prices are rather reasonable too. Our pick? Definitely their fried chicken on waffles.

5. Kim’s Family Food
If you are up for an authentic Korean meal, then Kim’s Family Food is the restaurant you should visit. Other than the fact that their side dishes are free and refillable, the Korean dishes at Kim’s Family Food will send you running back for more. Their Korean Seafood Pancake and Army Stew is definitely worth a shout out.

6. Ng Kim Lee Confectionery
Ng Kim Lee is one of the most underrated bakeries around that is known for traditional TeoChew and Western style mousse cakes, pastries and baked goods that are extremely affordable at only S$1 a pop. Our top picks? Their incredibly moist American Cheesecake and Strawberry Mousse Cake that melts in the mouth.

7. Top 1 Handmade Noodle
I’ve heard of this handmade noodle even before visiting the estate and true enough, it does live up to its name of being of the best handmade noodles in Singapore. Located at the rooftop of Beauty World Centre, the owner uses the genius pairing of sambal balachan and black soya sauce that makes the dish highly addictive.

8. G7 Sinma Live Bull Frog Claypot Porridge
I swear, that G7 Sinma Live Bull Frog Claypot Porridge has the best deals ever. Here, you can buy 4 bullfrogs, get 3 free and porridge for just S$30. Else, you can also buy 2, get 1 free for just S$6. Bullfrog wise, the meat was extremely tender and sweet which paired really well with the otherwise bland porridge.

9. Carpenter and Cook
Carpenter and Cook is famed for the cakes and pastries. The artisan bakery cafe also doubles as a vintage home store, and specializes in delivering small bites such as pizzas and sandwiches along with a plethora of homemade desserts and cakes. Carpenter and Cook bakes everything in-house, so you will definitely be assured of the quality here.

10. Bukit Timah Food Centre
And last of all, Bukit Timah Food Centre which has tons of hidden gems. If you are at Bukit Timah and really do not know what to eat, we recommend you to go straight to Bukit Timah food Centre because you can certainly find something there. And while you are at it, we highly recommend stores like Leng Kee Fish Soup – hearty and wholesome seafood soup and Mi Casa – a stall offering Spanish Cuisine below S$10.
