Have you ever been told that you look older than your actual age? Most of the time, it’s an accidental insult from your friends.
But how you look didn’t happen by accident. It could be that you are doing one or more of the things that apparently make you age faster!
Going on low-fat diets
When you go on such diets, it will deprive you of an essential nutrition which prevents wrinkles – omega-3 fatty acids. This will cause premature ageing of the skin.
Sipping on straws
If you prefer to enjoy your drink with a straw, then you would have to take note.
As sipping drinks through a straw requires you to purse your lips, it causes lines and wrinkles to form around your mouth.
The same effects apply when you smoke. Learned something new today, didn’t you?
Sleeping on your side
Sleeping in this position causes your face to be squashed into the pillow, and this increases the wrinkles on the cheeks and chin.
Experts suggest that sleeping flat on your back is the best as you are able to stay young, fresh and well-rested.
Well, not that we can maintain that position throughout the night, though…
Bad posture
A poor posture causes defects in the backbone of its normal alignment. This would make you appear older and more fatigue.
Not using sunscreen daily
Overexposure to UV rays is the main cause of premature ageing.
Blasting music
This causes your hearing to deteriorate quicker than a normal person, which will make you go “Huh” very often as you are not able to hear as clearly as someone who’s of the same age group as you.
This might not be physical, but it’s felt.
Stress
Chronic stress has been shown in several studies to cause serious damage to the cells which may speed up the ageing process.
In simpler terms, stop procrastinating if you don’t wish to look ten years older than your actual age.
Drinking too much alcohol
Alcohol causes inflammation in the body and can also slow down your metabolism. It also puts stress on the body, which accelerates the ageing process.
Our suggestion? Stop drinking lah.
Watching too much TV
Research shows that adults cut their life expectancy by 22 minutes for every 1 hour of television watched.
Yes, binge-watching on your favourite Korean dramas or Netflix on your devices counts as well. So get up and move about every now and then when you’re watching any shows.
You sleep lesser than what’s good for you
Let’s admit it, there will be days when we do not clock in the minimum eight hours of sleep when we are flooded with work.
But doing so not only makes you appear more fatigued, but it also shortens your life.
To those who have ticked more than one on this list, it’s not too late to change your bad habits so that you can look younger!
