Man Jailed Three Weeks for Assaulting Stranger Wearing Cap With Israeli Emblem

A man was sentenced to three weeks’ jail on 2 November 2026 for assaulting a stranger wearing a cap bearing an Israeli emblem.

Muhammad Asyraf Said, 30, pleaded guilty. The Singaporean’s victim was Alan Sim, 55.

Assault Took Place in Sengkang

The incident happened in Rivervale Drive on 27 October 2025. The two men did not know each other.

Police received a call for help at about 10:40pm. In their June statement, they said preliminary investigations found that the younger man had allegedly snatched the older man’s cap and assaulted him.

Sim suffered injuries and sought medical treatment. Officers identified the suspect through ground enquiries and police camera footage.

Seeking leniency, Asyraf claimed Sim had been verbally and physically aggressive towards him, The Straits Times reported.

Victim Received Separate Warning

Police said Sim received a stern warning instead of prosecution for an offence under the Foreign National Emblems (Control of Display) Act.

In the same statement, police advised the public against displaying or wearing articles associated with foreign conflicts. They urged people to express their views lawfully and responsibly, and not bring overseas conflicts into Singapore.

Voluntarily causing hurt carries a maximum punishment of three years’ jail, a S$5,000 fine, or both.
