If you have seen the news as of lately, you would have noticed that there have been a slew of news on the collision crash that happened near Woodlands Checkpoint.
Let me paint you a clear picture of what exactly happened.
1) Where did it happen
Like mentioned, the accident happened near Woodlands Checkpoint. To be exact, it occurred at 21 Woodlands Crossing and the authorities were alerted at about 6:10 A.M.
2) Four-vehicle collision
A car, two lorries and a bus was involved in this collision.
3) What exactly happened
The car (silver Nissan Serena) was sandwiched by two lorries at both ends when a bus hit the lorry that was behind the Nissan Serena.
Straits Times understands that the lorries and the car were stationary when the bus crashed into the back of the lorry (the third vehicle in the line-up).
4) Who was in the silver Nissan Serena
30-year-old, Shen Zhongsheng was making his way back to his home in Johor when the unfortunate accident transpired.
He told the Straits Times that he had stopped at a traffic light for barely a minute between two huge lorries when the one behind him suddenly rammed into his car.
5) He was very lucky
Luckily, Zhongsheng came out of the accident unscathed.”
“I think I’m quite lucky. If the lorry driver behind me didn’t hit his brakes, I could have been injured, badly even,” he said.
“I felt fine. I was in worse accidents, like one last year, where I had to be hospitalised,” he added.
6) There were no fatal casualties
Miraculously, there were no life-threatening injuries. Most of them only suffered minor injuries.
7) The other victims
Passengers on the bus were not that lucky. Zhongsheng saw passengers climbing out of the window at the back of the bus as the doors were stuck after the crash.
The 25 passengers and the driver of the bus were sent to three hospitals, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.
8) Lane closure
ICA announced on their Facebook that there was a partial lane closure at Woodlands Crossing due to the accident.
9) The lane was reopened
After a mere 2 hours or so, the lane was reopened again.
10) Traffic has been heavy
Straits Times quoted the ICA saying that about 430,000 people are expected to clear the Tuas and Woodlands checkpoint daily during the December holiday period— 30,000 more than usual.
