I’d like to think of myself as a JB town rat these days. Ask me about restaurants, hotels, getaways and places to get cheap steals, I know the deals.
And one place that’s got everything melded into one spot is KSL city. It might look like your average mall, but there’s a generous handful of hidden gems.
Here are 10 awesome ones you won’t want to miss!
Penang Laksa at D’Laksa
I’ve had Penang laksas, and this bowl is one of the better ones. The soupy goodness comes with crunchy lettuce, spoonfuls of sardine flaked flesh, sweet onion slices and a broth that’s got an attitude.
Nyonya Chendol House
What’s not to like about chendol, especially after a tiring walk around the mall? Refresh yourself with green jelly, the taste of smoky gula Melaka, santan and red beans in a cup for slightly more than a dollar.
Da Shang Hai
If you ever want a quick bite, get into this shop and try their dumplings and dim sum.
Factory Outlet Store
Yes, retail therapy can be cheap here with tons of shops selling you China goods. But if you’re interested in good brands at a cheap price, go to FOS. I once found a pair of Levi’s in my size, and at a really good bargain!
KSL Hotel
Take a staycation and enjoy the mall at your own leisure. If you’ve got kids, you could bring them to the dinosaur park that’s in the hotel premises. The Family Day Package costs RM85 for adults and RM55 for kids (gulp!), but I’m pretty sure the entrance fee itself is much less.
Taang Shifu
Double-boiled soups are good for you and tedious to make at home. Try the Tian Qi Nourishing Soup Set, which comes with a bowl of yam rice on the side for RM18.90.
Royal Balinese Spa
Get the aches outta those aching feet with a good massage here.
Nails Studio
Work at this place is definitely cheaper than what I’ve been paying in Singapore from time to time. They have an excellent gel manicure and pedicure package.
Neo Fruit Trading
This durian stall is worth your every while. Trust me on this.
MBO Cinemas
Watch a movie for half the price. Heck, watch two movies! You can even sign up for a membership plan and get points to redeem for snacks and movie tickets.
Watch this for a complete summary of what REALLY happened to Qoo10, and why it's like a K-drama:
