The recent heatwave hitting us has certainly left us deeply reluctant to leave the shelter of our humble abodes. If you are a jogger, you will definitely find that your exercise routine has been disrupted due to the sweltering heat. Keep fit and healthy even in this scorching weather by doing these super simple yet effective workouts that are suitable for the cool indoors.

Jumping Jacks
Do you remember doing this exercise when you were a kid? It seemed like great fun at that time, all the jumping around with your little friends. Surprise, surprise, surprise, this exercise is actually a really great cardio workout and works as a warming up exercise too.

Squats
I’m sure you have heard of squats doing wonders in shaping your buttocks and glutes for that Kim Kardashian booty you always wanted. However, many people do not know how to do a proper squat and often perform it wrongly. Refer to the video below on instructions on how to do a correct squat.

Jumping rope
Another blast from the past is the jumping rope that reminds you of recesses and after school activities where you played with a group of friends. Similar to jumping jacks, the jump rope gives you a good cardio workout as well.

Planking
This is a good exercise for strengthening your core and only takes you a few minutes max, if you can last that long, that is. Try to last at least 30 seconds, and continue adding at least 10 seconds every day. It looks easy but is quite a challenging exercise.

Lunges
Lunges are ideal exercises in shaping your lower body, especially your legs and can be done easily at home. Step up the difficulty level with the addition of weights if you feel that it might be too easy for you.

Dancing
You might think dancing is reserved for nights out partying around town but it is also an excellent workout. There are many dance workout videos on the Internet that you can follow or if you want to just want to groove to your own beat in the privacy of your home, feel free to do so.

Step exercises
You don’t have to have a flight of stairs to actually do this exercise. Instead, what you can do is get a sturdy stool and do variations of steps on the stool which will help you tone your leg muscles.

High knees
Miss your running routine? Try the high knees exercise instead, which is similar to running. It will really bring up your heart rate and is a marvellous cardio workout especially if you can do it really quick.

Pushups
Pushups really helps to strengthen and build the muscles in your arms and chest area. If you find them hard to do at first, try the easier method of using your knees or even doing it against a wall.

Weight lifting
Think you need fancy and expensive dumbbells to do weight lifting at home? You don’t have to. Just utilize your ordinary household items such as bottles of water, laundry detergent and even canned items. Add more weight as you go along for a greater challenge.
