There is a cycle that keeps repeating itself during the COVID-19 pandemic. It goes something like this:

Infections rise – More Restrictions – People Lose Hope  – Infections Decline – Restrictions Ease – Talks of Opening Up Begin – People Gain Hope – Infections Rise

Now, we’re at the “Infections rise” stage, and the numbers are reaching concerning heights.

Yesterday, a whopping 163 new community cases were reported, the highest daily case count in Singapore since 10 Aug last year, when 188 new infections were reported.

However, those 188 infections included only one community case.

Here’s what you need to know about our latest infections:

10 More Markets & Food Centres & 2 More KTV Lounges Linked to New COVID-19 Cases

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has detected COVID-19 transmission among fishmongers at 10 more markets and food centres.

They are:

  • Albert Centre Market and Food Centre
  • Ang Mo Kio Central Market and Food Centre
  • 630 Bedok Reservoir Road Market and Food Centre
  • 497 Jurong West Street 41 Market
  • 505 Jurong West Street 52 Market
  • Kim Keat Palm Market and Food Centre
  • Mayflower Wet Market and Food Centre
  • Teck Ghee Market and Food Centre
  • 146 Teck Whye Avenue Market
  • Tekka Centre

Cases of COVID-19 infection have now been detected at a total of 26 markets and food centres.

116 of the 163 new locally transmitted cases are linked to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster, which now has 179 cases.

To fish out more cases linked to the cluster and prevent further transmission, MOH will be working with the People’s Association to distribute antigen rapid test (ART) self-test kits to individuals who have visited selected markets and food centres in the last 14 days.

The collection will take place today (20 July) and tomorrow at residents’ committee centres in the vicinity of:

  • Cheng San Market and Cooked Food Centre
  • Chong Boon Market and Food Centre
  • Geylang Serai Market and Food Centre
  • Haig Road Market and Food Centre

20 of the new community cases have also been linked to the growing KTV cluster, which now has 193 cases.

MOH’s investigations revealed ongoing transmission at two more KTV clubs – Dynasty Classic KTV at 1 Sophia Road and True Love at 211 Geylang Road.

Yesterday, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said that the KTV and Jurong Fishery Port cluster are linked, and that more details will be released to the public when MOH has more conclusive results.

The only good news is that the 121 Bukit Merah View cluster has been closed as there were no cases linked to it for the past 28 days.
