Paris, London, New York – what do these cities have in common? The easiest thing to spot is that they all require super long plane flights to get there – up to 20 hours or even more! If you love flying to faraway countries but hate the long-haul flights that you have to take to get there, then here are some travel hacks to help you make the journey a much more pleasant one!
Moisturise
Don’t check in everything – bring along some travel-sized moisturisers and lotions. Staying in a plane for a long time can really dehydrate you and your skin.
Avoid coffee
Try not to drink any coffee, as it is severely dehydrating. You can get headaches from dehydration at high altitudes. Also, during a long haul flight, you should try to expend as little energy as possible and coffee will only serve to make you more excitable.
Avoid alcohols
Again, this can dehydrate you and give you headaches. Furthermore, it worsens jet lag when you land in a different timezone.
Drink green tea
It’s less dehydrating and can also keep you awake if you need to start adjusting your body clock. Also, it’s been proven to help you with adjusting to the new time zone.
Wear appropriate clothing
Opt for loose-fitting clothing so that you can sleep comfortably and prevent your clothes from suffocating you when your limbs swell due to the altitude. Also, bring a jacket just in case it gets too cold.
Bring a support pillow
Blankets and earplugs might be readily available if you ask the cabin crew, but a support pillow might not. This can help you to relax and sleep properly without straining your muscles.
Bring your own entertainment.
Some airlines carry boring movies or just so few that they can’t last you throughout. Bring your own laptop or books to read.
Exercise on board
Do leg lifts and walk around every few hours. This helps in blood circulation and prevents deep-vein thrombosis.
Choose the right meal.
Opt for food high in carbohydrates, such as pasta or rice, as they help to readjust your body clock.
Bring your own snacks.
The plane has very limited variety of snacks and you don’t want to eat peanuts all the time. Prepare snacks that you like so that you have something to eat in between meals.
