In this modern day and age, where technology plays a big part in our lives and everything is fast-paced, the dating scene has also drastically changed as compared to the past.
In the past, dating was simple. The moment you’re dating, it pretty much guaranteed you’re in a relationship with your partner. Now? Don’t be alarmed when people tell you that they are dating 2 girls at a go, because #moderndating.
1. Dating is not equivalent to being in a relationship
In the old times, you can only date one person at a time. Dating was equivalent to being in a relationship, whereas its different now. Apps such as Tinder have spoiled us for choice and made it OK to be dating multiple people at once.
So yes, dating doesn’t mean that you’re in a relationship now.
2. Texting is the new communication
Forget calling someone. Everyone talks over text now, especially between the millennials. Unlike the past, where we would steer clear of texts and talk over phone calls. Furthermore, texting is a great way to flirt, especially when you are dating.
3. Chivalry is still alive- just different
In the past, when you go on a date, the guy always picks up the check. Guys still do that now, with the exception that ladies have the choice to foot the bill too, or split the bill.
4. Women makes the first move too
There used to be the thought where men should always be the one making the first move. However, in this modern dating world, it’s common for women to initiate a date too. Gender doesn’t matter in the pursuit of love, as long as it is reciprocal!
5. Testing Waters
There used to be an unwritten rule that you can’t have sex on the first date. It is not acceptable in society, especially in the dating scene. Yet now, you are allowed to test out the chemistry as soon as you feel like it.
As open-minded millennials, we are not surprised that they are more likely than those of other generations to have sex before a first date to see if there’s a genuine attraction.

6. Open Conversation
The advice used to be to avoid talk of politics and former relationships on early dates. However, in the modern dating world now, opening up about ideals and your past is deemed as of importance on first dates.
When people meet, they want to know of each other’s values and lifestyles, to determine their compatibility. Hence, it is more acceptable to talk about your exes now as compared the past.
7. Speed dating
Usually, last minute dates means you were deemed as a second choice. No one likes being a second choice. Yet time has changed, and it is increasingly common to receive a last minute invite to a date. With the ability to find a potential match now sped up to the nth degree, everything is fast-paced, as well as your date.
8. Once connected, always connected
Remember that date you had with that guy last month? With Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, anyone can be tracked down, including him. If you feel like going out on a date with him, simply hit him up again. Its that simple to contact your previous dates again, although at the expense of anonymity.
9. Quit the waiting game
The advice of “waiting three days before talking to him again” is so yesterday. Given the fast-paced society in our dating world, no one has the time to wait for you to text him back. If you don’t reach out when you can, the other party might have already moved on to his next date.
10. Netflix and Chill
Gone were the days where dates had to be an elaborate night out at a restaurant or club. Nowadays, even watching Netflix together is considered a hot date.
A Match.com survey found that millennials are 270 percent more likely than other generations to be turned on if their match watches the same TV show.
Welcome to the modern dating world.
