10 times rollercoasters didn’t work and killed its riders

Roller coasters have always been the highlight of any theme park visit. there are the small ones for the kiddos, and then the thrilling ones for the adults. As much as they are fantastic rides, they are also fatal. These incidents prove it.


Batman: The Ride

In 2008, a man dropped his hat inside the ride’s compound so he climbed over fences to get it. However while he was trying to retrieve it, the roller coaster hit him and knocked his head off. Gruesome.


Puff the Little Fire Dragon

In 1989 in Utah, the safest and slowest ride killed a 6-year-old boy who slipped out of ride’s safety bars and fell 1.2 metres. That fall did not kill him but he tried to climb up the railway, getting hit by the roller coaster and was killed immediately.


The Cyclone

At New York’s Coney Island, only one man took the roller coaster. He got past the safety bar and stood up as the ride approached a big hill, causing him to drop 9 metres, landing on a crossbeam and killed instantly. Could it have been suicide?


Mindbender

In 1986 at Alberta, Canada, the famous indoor triple loop coaster met a disastrous accident. One car was sent flying off because of a fault, and the safety bars were suddenly disengaged. It sent riders flying out, hitting concrete walls ad resulted in the deaths of 3 people. Guess what. It’s still in function today.


Fujin Raijin II

In 2007, Japan’s Expoland outside Osaka killed one person and injured 19 others. This was because the roller coaster derailed. It was found out later that the result was because of faulty axles that had not been replaced in 15 years.


Ride of Steel

The accident took place in 2011. A man who lost both his legs in Gulf War decided to have fun at Darien Lake theme park. However though he got the green light for this ride, he bounced out of his restraints and fell to his death.


Flight Commander

In Ohio, USA, a 32-year-old fell off the ride and got killed on impact. There were similar gruesome incidents where three men who went into a pond to rescue a man got electrocuted. The theme park is said to be haunted by its victims.


The Big Dipper, UK

In 1972 at London’s Battersea Fun Fair, an old wooden roller coaster that was the highlight of the park had its ropes that brought the roller coaster to the top of the hill snap. The anti-rollback mechanism didn’t function at that time either, resulting in cars smashed into a wall and killing 5 children. 13 others were injured.


Texas Giant

Three years ago, a 52-year-old woman going on this ride felt uneasy about the safety bar. As the ride proceeded, she fell 23 metres down and landed on the roof of another ride, causing blood and tissues to be splattered around the park. Her body almost broke into two.


Big Dipper, Nebraska

In 1930 due to a brake malfunction, some cars fell 10m down, crushing 4 people and injuring 19 others.
