I‘m sure many of you are familiar with the name Cold Storage. This supermarket chain is one of the many places besides NTUC, Sheng Shiong and Giant that you visit regularly for grocery shopping and one reason why it is popular with many Singaporeans is the wider variety of goods they carry compared to our local grocers. Here are few facts about Cold Storage that may entice you to shop there today.
Name
Do you know why it is named Cold Storage? No, it is not because it’s colder there. The reason why it is called Cold Storage is because back in 1903, it started out as a distributor for frozen meats and other food products from Australia and the chillers used to store these products was the main reason why they chose the name Cold Storage.
Pharmacy
If you needed to get medical supplies in the past, you had to visit dedicated pharmacies that provided such products. Cold Storage was one of the first to offer self-service pharmacies within its supermarkets back in 1959, that meant that shoppers could get their medical supplies along with grocery shopping. Doesn’t this make you feel fortunate that shopping today is much more convenient as compared to the past?
We are Singapore
If you recalled singing national day songs as a child, the song “We are Singapore” will be no stranger to you. Did you know Cold Storage contributed to the making of the song?
