Fights are uncommon in Singapore.
Usually, if somebody is verbally abusive, our instinct is to ignore them and walk away to prevent the situation from escalating.

13-Year-Old Punched Food Delivery Rider
According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred around 6.24 pm on 23 April 2023.
The Chinese news media was alerted to the news via a reader’s tip-off.
The reader’s friend filmed a 16-second video depicting the incident.
It occurred outside Le Quest Shopping Mall in Bukit Batok.
The video was filmed from inside a nearby shop and has since been making rounds on the internet.
The Video
According to the reader, the spectacle started after the man asked the boy, “See what?”

The incident sounds like a copy-and-paste of a fight scene in a Crimewatch episode.
The start of the video shows the boy giving a loud battle cry in Mandarin, “Come!”
He is seen putting both fists up before charging towards the food delivery rider.
The rider was able to block the first few punches thrown at him while retreating to a bicycle with a Foodpanda backpack.
However, he took several punches to the head.

While his back was facing the boy, the boy took the opportunity to launch three kicks at the rider.
This caused the rider to nearly topple over with the bicycle.
Fortunately, he managed to regain his balance and composure.
When he turned to look at the boy, he had already left in the mall’s direction.
Before the video cuts off, a woman can be heard yelling, “Oi! I call police ah!”

Other Incidents of Children Misbehaving Going Viral
For some reason, 2023 has seen quite a number of cases of kids acting up.
On 12 April 2023, a 12-year-old boy reportedly stole a bus belonging to A&S Transit and managed to drive around Singapore for five hours before crashing the bus.
Fortunately, nobody was injured, and the bus only suffered minor scratches.
Just a few days earlier, on 8 April 2023, CCTV footage of a boy taking off his pants and humping a cat went viral.

He was arrested for his actions.
According to the cat’s owner, the cat has been exhibiting signs of trauma since the incident.
On 3 March 2023, a boy purposely jammed the doors at the East-West line platform at Jurong East MRT station and posted his antics on YouTube.
His antics resulted in a one-minute train delay.

Possible Consequences
Both the boy and the food delivery rider were arrested for affray.
According to Section 267A of the Penal Code, affray is “where two or more persons disturb the public peace by fighting in a public place”.
For committing an affray, one can be imprisoned for up to one year, a fine of up to $5000, or both.
However, since the boy is a minor, he may be tried in the Youth Courts of Singapore and receive a lighter punishment.

Instead of receiving a “sentence”, youths receive “dispositional orders” instead.
Youths under 14 will not be sentenced to imprisonment for any offence committed and will be dealt with in other ways like community service or juvenile rehabilitation.
