17YO NTU Student Expelled After Allegedly Taking Video Of Female Student Showering

Monica Baey is a name that most Singaporeans would be familiar with by now. If for some reason you do not know her, she’s a National University of Singapore (NUS) student who was a victim in a case similar to the one you’re about to read.

She was unhappy with the way the school swept her case under the rug, and so took it to social media to bring herself justice.

It looks like her cries for justice have finally been heard, so much that even NTU has made sure to show no leniency.

17YO NTU Student Expelled After Allegedly Taking Video Of Female Student Showering

A 17-year-old Nanyang Technological University (NTU) student was expelled for allegedly using his handphone to take a video of a woman who was showering.

The incident happened on campus.

Of course I’m sure you’re wdonering: how can a 17-year-old boy guy study in NTU? Shouldn’t he be in JC or army now?

Well, the 17-year-old in question is a Chinese national, so that explains.

Named Han Shiyu, he is being accused of insulting the 20-year-old woman’s modesty on 12 August 2019 at around 9.20pm.

NTU had revealed that the student has since been expelled in October, saying that they take a zero-tolerance approach towards harassment.

They also declared that they take all cases of misconduct involving harassment seriously.

But wait, even though he got what he deserved he is just one of many tertiary students who have been brought to court in 2019 alone for the same crime.

Han will turn 18 in December and was given bail of $15,000.

He will be back in court on 23 December.

Other Similar Cases

On 2 October, a 22-year-old Singaporean who was studying in a top university in Britain committed the same heinous act.

He placed a video recorder at Orchard Hotel to record women who were showering.

Another 26-year-old man also took upskirt videos of women and took videos of them showering at a local university in Singapore.

The frequency at which these offences occur is frankly alarming, which is why it’s important to ensure strong deterrence by dishing out just punishments.
