We now have the highest number of COVID-19 cases in South East Asia with a total of 6,588 cases.

MOH updated us of the numbers this afternoon and has just provided more information about today’s (19 April 2020) cases.

There is no imported case today.

Of the 596 cases, 30 are cases from the community: it comprises 25 Singaporeans or Singapore PRs, and 5 Work Pass holders.

Based on the figures, the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 37 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 31 per day in the past week.

Here’s a graph showing the trend of community cases (excludes today’s numbers):

22 of the cases are Work Permit holders staying outside of dormitories.

The majority of cases, a total of 544 of them, are Work Permit holders staying in dormitories, as the authorities are actively testing them. Most of these cases are young, have a mild illness and are being monitored in the community isolation facilities or general ward of our hospitals. None of them is in the intensive care unit.

5 new clusters were found today, too. They are:

  • Woodlands Lodge I
  • Changi Lodge II
  • 51 Paya Ubi Industrial Park
  • 17 Jalan Besut
  • Sembawang Shipyard

It’s also revealed that there’s one more case from the public healthcare sector—a patient that was announced on 17 April 2020. She’s a 32-year-old Singaporean who works as a nurse at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

Updates on Confirmed Cases

As mentioned, the total number of cases is at 6,588 now.

768 patients have fully recovered and are discharged, while 22 are in ICU. 11 have passed away due to complications caused by the COVID-19 infection.

The conditions of the remaining patients are stable or improving, and in this group, 2,888 of them who are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
