Reformative Training for Youth Who Raped His Own Sister and Another Girl

On Thursday, a 20-year-old youth was sentenced for raping two underaged girls—his sister and another girl.

His punishment? At least 12 months’ detention in an informative training centre.

The youth pleaded guilty to four charges, including rape and sexual assault by penetration. For the purposes of sentencing, four other charges were taken into consideration.

So what exactly was his crime, or in this case, his crimes?

Youth Tried Raping His Biological Sister When She was 8 or 9 Years Old

The 20-year-old’s first victim was his sister.

When his sister was merely eight or nine years old, the youth, who was then 14 years old, tried to rape her. He had asked his sister to have sex with him, to which his sister declined. She also tried to push him away.

Unfortunately, he forced himself on his sister and tried to rape her. Although he failed, that wasn’t the end. He made his sister engage in a sex act with him instead.

Her parents never knew of this incident, as he had warned his sister not to tell on him.

A few years later, he raped his sister, who was then 11 years old, but this time while she was asleep.

Although she woke up in the process, she continued pretending to be sound asleep in fear of what he would do to her if she showed any response.

As if these incidents weren’t enough, he also once hit her head so hard that she bled.

Imagine living under the same roof as someone like that.

Youth Raped 13-Year-Old Girl at Stairwell

The 20-year-old’s second victim was another 13-year-old girl.

The youth had asked the girl to meet him at his block, and they ended up talking at the stairwell at around 10 pm. When he tried making his advances, the girl tried to push him away but couldn’t because he was too strong.

He then pushed the girl down the staircase and forced her to have sex with him. Even when she begged him to stop, he continued to rape her.

He continued to rape her even when she pleaded for him to stop.

She only managed to escape after some time when she kicked him, but it was already too late.

Youth Believes Forcing A Girl to Have Sex is Still Consensual Sex

A psychologist assessed the youth to believe that sexual offending was acceptable. He had claimed that even if he had to force a girl to have sex, the sex was still consensual.

As a result, the youth was sentenced to reformative training, a rehabilitation programme aiming to reform offenders under 21 into contributing citizens.

The informative training regime may include psychology-based correctional programmes, family programmes and education programmes to help young offenders review their previous behaviour.

After completing their minimum detention period and the necessary rehabilitation programmes, these young offenders are eligible for release on supervision after a review by the Reformative Training Centre.

Those found guilty of sexual assault by penetration can be jailed for up to 20 years, fined or caned.

Those convicted of statutory rape, which covers cases involving underage victims, can be jailed for up to 20 years and given at least 12 strokes of the cane for each count of the offence.
