On 19 Nov 2021, a 21-year-old was sentenced to one year in reformative training.
His offence? For having sex with underage girls and getting them pregnant, as well as hitting one of them in a dispute.

12-Year-Old Victim
The offender was 18 years old when he met with his youngest victim.
Then, she was 12 years old, going on 13.
They met on Instagram back in January 2019, and he was aware of her age.
But that did not stop him from meeting her at his home where he had sex with her, and they met up again in Feb the same year to have sexual intercourse at a staircase landing.
On 30 April 2019, the girl realised that she was pregnant and underwent an abortion in May that year.
The foetus was proven to be “99.9999%” likely to be his.
The offender then enlisted for National Service but continued meeting the girl. During a sleepover at her place in June 2019, the pair had sexual intercourse again.
18-Year-Old Victim
From Aug 2019 to Sep 2020, the offender met with, and dated, his second victim, an 18-year-old girl.

In January 2020, the pair quarrelled outside her home.
During the dispute, he slapped the victim and kicked her in the lower back.
In Mar 2020, the girl discovered that she was pregnant.
Four months later, she gave birth to the baby.
The First Victim
Turns out, the offender had an earlier offence that took place in 2017.

Then, he had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl at a staircase landing.
They had sex twice or thrice a month until they broke up.
In early 2018, the girl found out that she was pregnant. She gave birth to the child and is currently it.
The hospital reported the underage pregnancy to the police on 7 Mar 2018.
Reformative TrainingÂ
The offender was judged unsuitable for probation and was served with one-year reformative training.

When deciding between reformative training and probation, the judge will decide based on:
- The seriousness of the offence
- Offender’s record
- How likely the offender is to be rehabiliated
Reformative training is a more severe form of rehabilitation where the offender is placed in a structured environment (facility) to be rehabilitated.
For each charge of sexual penetration of a minor, he could’ve been jailed for up to 20 years and fined or caned.
