Sometimes, when you pass by a person with a heartbreaking story, you just want to share it with the world.

Maybe you figured that every little bit of support counts; or maybe, you just want people to know that there are people who aren’t as lucky as you out there.

Whichever it is, it usually results in you getting your one minute of fame and feeling awesome because you’ve done a good deed.

Except sometimes, it doesn’t.

The Viral Post

So recently, a man was passing by an HDB block in Pasir Ris when he saw an elderly man fixing bikes at the void deck.

Upon finding out that the elderly man was doing this to pay for his kidney dialysis treatment, the man decided to take the matter to Facebook to drum up support for the uncle and his business.

Apparently not.

Grandson Allegedly Clarifies Story of 83YO Man Who Fixes Bikes for Kidney Dialysis

On 16 Nov 2021, Facebook user Gabriel Lim turned up on the comment section of MustShareNew’s post.

Introducing himself as the grandson of the “bicycle uncle” that everyone is very concerned about, Lim thanked netizens for their care and concern for his grandfather.

However, he had something to clarify about the situation.

First of all, his grandfather does not need financial aid.

While it’s true that his grandfather needs to go for kidney dialysis, his treatment is covered by insurance, with the remainder paid for by his family members.

He also urged members of the public to respect his grandfather’s desire for self-sufficiency.

His grandfather chose to fix bikes for his own expenses not because he needs to, but he wants to; while he and his family appreciate some members of the public dropping off red packets with his grandfather, he hopes that such actions will stop.

Nonetheless, he appreciates the kind intentions behind their actions.

Last, but not least, he hopes that members of the public will not intentionally support his business.

That’s because his grandfather’s health is still the family’s priority and they do not want to see him overworked.

He hopes that people will stop sharing the post and let life return to normalcy for his grandfather and the family.
