As you probably would know by now, yesterday, we had our first double-digit community cases since 27 April 2020—a good three weeks ago.
While it’s due to more testing being done, it sure is not a good sign.
Thankfully, today is better.
There are 614 cases reported today.
This brings the total number of cases in Singapore to 30,426.
Out of today’s cases, 4 are Singaporeans or Singapore PRs.
A majority of the cases are still work permit holders in dormitories.
On average, based on yesterday’s numbers, the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 7 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 6 per day in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has remained stable at an average of 2 per day in the past two weeks.
And yesterday, due to proactive testing of all pre-school staff and everyone in nursing houses, a new cluster was found and it’s worrying.
New Cluster Detected At Orange Valley Nursing Home
Yesterday, 4 new community cases, aged between 72 and 97 years old, were detected as part of the Ministry of Health (MOH)’s active surveillance and screening at Orange Valley Nursing Home.
With Covid-19, the most vulnerable group in Singapore is the elderly which is why the Ministry of Health (MOH) is doing more proactive testing on pre-school staff as well as the employees and residents of nursing homes in Singapore.
The staff who were in close contact with the infected residents tested negative for Covid-19.
It was added that they have “thoroughly cleaned and disinfected the ward and affected areas of the nursing home”.
In early May, all the staff of the Orange Valley Nursing Home has been tested for the coronavirus and the results came back negative.
Staff who are in close contact with residents have also been staying at designated hotels since 8 May to minimise the risk of getting infected.
Orange Valley Nursing Home said that they’ve been “proactively” testing their staff and residents since Apr 30.

It was added that the nursing home has compiled with all “enhanced precautionary measures in line with MOH advisories” including:
- disallowing visitors to the nursing home
- strict split-zone requirements
- ensure safe distancing
It’s, of course, unknown how the cluster might have formed.
