22YO On Probation For Taking Upskirt Videos Does It Again; Now Faces Possibilty Of 1 Year In Jail

Seriously, what’s with the increase of sexual predators nowadays?

We just wrote about three different sexual-harassment-related cases in the last two months, most of which stem from NUS (no surprise there) and now here we are again.

It seems like they never learn despite all the offenders who got caught, but get more shameless because there are probably tons more out there. Sigh, we can only hope to become like Pokemon trainers and catch em’ all one day.

Imagine being so weak that you’re unable to handle your lack of self-control and become a repeat offender even after getting caught once – this particular offender can relate.

He Did It Again

Lim Jia Jun, a 22-year-old full-time NS man, just doesn’t know when to stop.

Previously, he had been sentenced to a 21-month split probation on 8 Nov 2018, against three charges of voyeurism-related offences (taking upskirt videos of women), although eight charges were taken into consideration at the time.

He didn’t make it very far into his probation period though, for just three weeks in, he took 19 more new upskirt videos with his mobile phone.

During his probation period, Lim wasn’t allowed to use a mobile phone with a camera function, unless he had a psychologist’s permission after assessment. However, he used a Sony Xperia phone to film the 19 upskirt videos without a prior assessment and thus breached the court order, according to Deputy Public Prosecutor Benedict Chan.

Tsk. Really now?

Filmed At Chinatown Point

On 29 Nov 2018, Lim went to Chinatown Point and areas around it to prey on his unsuspecting victims between 12pm to 2.15pm.

This included places like Chinatown MRT, as well as the mall’s Watsons, NTUC and Daiso outlets.

While he was in Daiso attempting to capture a video, Lim’s suspicious actions were noticed by Mr Koh Kheng Boon. It must’ve been quite obvious, for he was squatting down with his mobile phone behind a woman wearing a knee-length skirt as she browsed the shelf.

Mr Koh then informed a Daiso staff member, and they both approached Lim and the victim to check his mobile phone gallery for any incriminating videos. However, they could not find anything, so the victim just left the outlet without taking any further action.

Sneaky, But Still Stupid

But why couldn’t they find anything?

Lim actually used a mobile app that allowed him to film videos in the background while the phone screen showed a totally different app or even when his phone screen was turned off. Furthermore, the display icon of the app can also be masked to look like a totally different app, and the videos would then be stored in the app itself instead of in your camera roll to avoid detection.

It’s scary how the technological advancements of today’s day and age can let you do many things, including assisting you in committing crimes. Who knows what other tactics these people use to get what they want?

Lim was probably enraged at Mr Koh for foiling his plans and confronted him to challenge his claims about the incident. This prompted Mr Koh to call the police, who then discovered the 19 videos hidden in the app after a forensic investigation.

There were videos of the women’s inner thighs and panties that ranged from less than a minute to as long as 5 minutes and 30 seconds. Ugh.

Guilty As Charged

Lim admitted to six of the 19 charges against him for the repeat offence on 27 Nov 2019, almost exactly a year after the incident happened.

He confessed that he targeted young women who were wearing short skirts or dresses, and that his decision to commit the offence yet again was driven by his want to experience the thrill of taking upskirt videos after browsing voyeuristic forums.

Sentencing is expected to happen on 6 Jan next year.

Earlier this year, Mr Koh also received the Singapore Police Force’s public-spiritedness award for his good deeds.

We hope that the world will one day become a better place, and if you’re someone who’s ever considering repeating such actions, get yourself together and stop right there.

Stay safe, everyone!
