25YO Man Swallows Cigarette Lighter While Drinking; Lighter Leaked Fluid & Damaged His Stomach

We’ve all done crazy things while drinking, but this man’s tale will trump any bad drinking story you might have.

A 25-year-old man in China swallowed a cigarette lighter during a drinking session on 24th November.

Strangely, the man was unconcerned about the foreign object in his stomach and drunk even more beer over the next few days.

I don’t know if this man is brave or dumb.

But, three days after his lighter-swallowing act, the man started vomiting and he experienced excruciating stomach pain.

Visited the doctor

When he went to the doctor, he told the medical staff that he left the cigarette lighter in his stomach because he assumed it would eventually pass through his body.

So, this guy swallowed a cigarette lighter and actually expected it to gently slide out of his ass like a kid out of a water slide.

Stomach wall damaged

According to South China Morning Post, doctors could smell lighter fluid on the man’s breath as they were treating him.

That was a bad sign because that meant that the fluid had leaked from the lighter somehow. When they used a gastroscope, they found that one end of the lighter was broken.

As a result of the leak, the man’s stomach wall had been damaged, which explained the unbearable pain.

Removing the lighter was no easy task, however, as one of the doctors explained:

“We first used a pincer and tried several times, but failed to get the lighter out. Then I opened a net installed at the front end of the gastroscope to hold the lighter tightly before taking it out.”

“In this process, I had to adjust the angle slowly given that the oesophagus is thin and it’s easy for it to be scratched”, they said.

But how did the lighter break inside the man’s stomach? Well, the doctor has a theory, but it’s pretty grotesque.

He said that gastric juices in the man’s stomach may have eaten away at the lighter, causing lighter fluid to leak out. This damaged the digestive tract and could have led to gastric ulcers, erosions, and perforations.

The current condition of the man is unclear, but we hope that he’ll be able to survive this strange ordeal.

One thing’s for sure, though, he’s not swallowing any more lighters after this.
