You may have come across the Chinese idiom comparing a road to a tiger’s mouth (ma lu ru hu kou).
While some may dismiss this saying as fearmongering by the older generation to teach the younger generation to behave well while crossing the road, there may be some truth to this.
An accident involving a chain collision at Woodlands Road claimed the life of a young 28-year-old motorcyclist.
Here is more about the sad news.
Young Motorcyclists Died in Traffic Collision After Being Pinned Under a Lorry
As we get nearer to the end of the year, more and more people are out and about trying to visit friends and family during the festive season.
This could result in more traffic on the roads, which means more danger since drivers may not be paying attention.
Just yesterday afternoon (16 December 2023), there was a fatal accident at the junction of Woodlands Road and Mandai Estate.
The Straits Times reported the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) saying that they were alerted to the incident at around 12.05 p.m.
The accident involved a pile-up of a whopping seven vehicles.
Of the vehicles, motorcycles and heavy vehicles like trucks and lorries were involved.
The young motorcyclist who lost his life in the accident was unfortunately pinned under a lorry.
He was only 28 years old at the time of his death.
The SCDF spokesman shared with The Straits Times that the motorcyclist was found dead when they arrived at the accident scene.
Rest in peace.
Others Involved in the Accident Were Injured but Conscious
The only silver lining from this accident involving seven vehicles is that there was only one fatality.
There were, however, four other people injured.
These individuals were aged between 22 and 54 years old.
Thankfully, the injured individuals were conscious when taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital to be treated from their injuries.
Amongst those rescued was the driver of another lorry who was extricated from his seat by hydraulic rescue equipment.
A Truck Driver Was Arrested
For those who know the area well, Woodlands Road is well known to have many heavy vehicles plying the road.
That makes driving around that area slightly more dangerous than elsewhere as the consequences of an accident are likely to be more disastrous.
After the accident occurred, a male truck driver was arrested on the suspicion of careless driving causing death.
This was shared by the police to The Straits Times.
Police investigations are still ongoing and we will be keeping an eye out for any further developments.
