Honestly speaking, I have a rather irrational fear of being a parent. Not because of shotguns or anything, but because I’m afraid that I’ll end up imparting the wrong values, or just end up as a less than satisfactory parent.
Maybe like this.
Sounds dumb, I know. As my friend once told me before:
“Every parent will undoubtedly make mistakes. I’ll make mistakes too. What matters is that you keep learning from them.”
Yet even with his wise words in tow, the fear never stopped happening to me. And after going through this particular horror piece, I can’t help but wonder:
“What if you make a mistake you can never recover from?”
What happened?
On 30 March, a mother was out shopping with her two sons, one a 3-month-old baby, in a mall in Dongguan, China. Nothing particularly exceptional here, except that it’s all about to change the moment she got on an escalator down.
In a scenario nobody could’ve possibly envisioned, the woman stumbled for a bit and ended up tilting to her left, in the process letting the baby slip out of her grasp.
The infant ended up falling three storeys down.
Three storeys.
Thereafter, the woman, alongside her elder son, rushed down to the ground floor, but it was too late. By the time they arrived, the baby’s breathing has stopped and he was rendered completely motionless. According to World Of Buzz, both mother and son burst into tears at the scene, and despite the best efforts of emergency medical technicians (EMTs), it was to no avail.
He passed away on the spot.
Investigations are currently ongoing
After the unfortunate demise, local authorities conducted investigations with regards to the incident, but have stated that the case seems to be a horrific accident with no ill intent. This, however, didn’t seem to float with Netizens abound, as they felt that the mother’s posture was all too unnatural at the time of the ‘accident’.
“She (the mother) doesn’t seem to be standing very stably.”
“Why does it look like it was intentional.”
“Would anyone purposely carry their 3-month-old infant this way?”
Though of course, it’s all just conjecture at this point till the authorities come out with their own hypothesis.
You can watch the video below (take note that it’s potentially disturbing):
This isn’t the first recorded incident
On 10 May 2018, a 10-month-old baby from Rajasthan, India fell off an escalator while her parents were taking a selfie.
And on 10 August 2018, a three-year-old boy in Hubei province was holding on to the handrail of an escalator, while his parents and older sister rested in massage chairs just metres away. By the time they caught on, however, he had let slip and fell four storeys.
Different incidents, much in common.
Always remember, never neglect your children, parents.
Because it might turn out to be a mistake you can never make up for.
