Just when you thought that Yishun isn’t going to be in the news again, this happened.
Yesterday (14 June 2018) late afternoon, at around 4:55 p.m., a woman climbed to the roof of an overhead bridge at Yishun Ave 2, and due to rescue efforts by the SCDF and the police, the roads were closed.
Both directions were closed, and air bags were deployed on the road lest the woman fall.
Here is where is occurred:
Apparently, a police post is just around the corner.
It is unknown how she managed to climb to the roof; netizens around the area posted pictures and footage of her walking back and forth aimlessly.

SCDF officers were also seen climbing onto the roof to rescue her.
If you ever think that the SMRT Connect app is just an app that’s just wasting space in your phone, here’s an example of its usefulness: it alerts users about the bus diversions, in particular bus services 169, 883 and 965 due to this incident.
SCDF officers managed to corner her and dragged her to safety. She was then taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
By around 6:15 p.m., the roads were open again.
According to Stomp, the woman is 30 years old.
Woman Arrested for attempted suicide
Lest you’re not aware, attempting suicide in Singapore is illegal and is a seizable offence. Those found guilty can be fined, jailed for up to a year, or both.
Of course there is the question of why the need to criminalize this. A few people think that it serves as a deterrence – people might think twice before attempting to do so.
It is however rare for a person who attempt suicide to be charged; according to a Straits Times report, a lawyer says that he has yet to see a case of people who attempted suicide sent to prison.
There is, however one: a lady was sentenced to eight weeks’ jail as she has attempted suicide 13 times.
Yishun Back to the Headlines
Yishun hasn’t had a good June so far. Just hours before this incident, a tree branch fell on a bus, also on Yishun Ave 2, but this time nearer to Northpoint (Yishun MRT Station). The windscreen of the bus cracked but no one was injured.
Two days ago, a viral video of a chain accident in front of Yishun MRT Station caught the attention of online media, primarily because it was caused by a PMD rider who rode across the junction when it’s not in his / her favour. By now, anything PMD-related is definitely going to be in the news.
Guess Yishun’s back.
Now you know what Singaporeans are talking about today; do check back tomorrow for another piece of news of the day!
