Many Westies like to complain that the West is so boring, and there is a lack of good food and entertainment here. Although the East does host a lot of great cafes and is also home to staycation places like chalets and Downtown East, the West is definitely a promising new region to look out for. With these developments that will soon be taking place, you can be sure that the West will be a highlight in time to come.

Jurong Lake Gardens
The West will be boasting Singapore’s national garden in the heartlands by 2018. You don’t have to go to Botanic Gardens for a picnic – very soon, you will be able to have your picnic in this massive garden that is a combination of Chinese Garden, Japanese Garden, and Jurong Lake Park, dotted with the existing picturesque pagodas and bridges.

Cycling Network
The Jurong Lake district will become a cycling neighbourhood with its own bicycle network by 2017. Residents will be able to enjoy this activity and a healthier lifestyle with their friends and families.

New Science Centre
The new science centre will be replacing the current one at Jurong Town Hall road. You can expect it to be bigger and better than ever in 2020 when it opens. However, we will definitely miss the current one that has been open since 1977.

Water Sports Hub
Currently, most water sports event are either held at Marina Bay or Jurong Lake. Now, Westies can look forward to an even better hub which will feature a landscaped roof deck over the lake as well as a boat storage area.

2-storey Hawker Centre
For those people who always complain about not having enough food options in the West, you have to eat your words now. The new hawker centre will be located next to  Pioneer Mall, boasting 34 food stalls and 14 wet market stalls.
