For those of you non movie fans, here’s something you definitely have to catch this year:
Tomb Raider.
Lest you’re unaware, it’s the movie adaptation of a hit video game, and the reboot of the classic starring Angelina Jolie.
Basically, the movie follows the main character, Lara Croft, as she embark on a journey to solve the mystery of her father’s disappearance.
This is definitely a must watch if you’ve played the game before, or even heard of the game! Here are some more details that you might want to know or could spark an interest in you to catch this movie.
Angelina Jolie will no longer be playing the role of Lara Croft like the previous 2 editions
When the first Tomb Raider came out in 2001, it garnered a lot of attention. Although it was kinda expected, seeing how it starred Angelina Jolie.
Vise versa for the second series that came out in 2003. However, this time, there has been a change in cast. To all the Angelina Jolie fans out there, don’t be too disappointed, because…
Meet the new cast
This definitely has to be a super experienced team of actors.
Playing Lara Croft is Alicia Vikander.
Vikander has been nominated and won many awards. Such as the Oscars and Berlin International Film Festival. She is definitely a rising actress to look out for.
And her team? A cast including the likes of Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu and many more.
Talk about a star-studded cast!
Alicia Vikander has never done such action scenes
To be more like her character, Lara Croft, Alicia Vikander trained herself to the point where she’s now able to lift her own bodyweight.
Based on an interview done with Elle Magazine, Vikander mentioned that she has “never done action scenes on this level – not even close”. It may sound and feel very tiring, but it’s safe to say she sounded like she enjoyed the whole process of training.
Comparison between Lara Croft and Wonder Woman
As most of you know, Wonder Woman (2017) was a definite success and it will not be a shock if people would compare them to each other.
Reason being that they both have a similar concept. They both showed the image of a strong woman which gives viewers a very fresh image, as it is no longer the normal mundane story about male superheroes.
So Wonder Woman fans, this cool flick might be something you wanna catch!
Production process
GK films first acquired the rights to the film in 2011. However they only started the filming process at the beginning of 2017, after announcing the new Lara Croft the year before.
Rumors had it that Daisy Ridley (acted in Starwars as Rey) was suppose to at one point play the role of Lara Croft. However she claimed that it was just a “crazy rumor”.
And here’s an interesting bit: the movie has been revealed to be tied in closely with the story line of the 2013 video game reboot Tomb Raider.
So if you’ve played the game before… this movie’s something you DEFINITELY have to catch!
