Being in your 20s is exciting and full of endless possibilities. You explore new things and try to figure out who you are and what you want in life. But as you edge closer to the 30s mark, it’s time to put yourself together. Here are five important habits to master before you turn 30 to ensure a lifetime of success.

Take care of your health
As we age, our body’s metabolism slow and we become more susceptible to illnesses. We can get away with eating junk food when we were younger, but consequences will show up later in life. Although we can’t get younger, we can take care of our health by ensuring a proper diet, going for health checkups and having a regular exercise regime. Avoid food that are loaded with sugar and fats and opt for natural, non-processed items. Get active at least three times a week and you’ll notice an increase in your energy levels.

Keep learning
Learning does not stop after graduating from school or even when you have a stable job. It is a lifelong journey that keeps your mind active and curious. Not only that, chances of getting diseases such as Alzheimer’s also decrease. Find opportunities to continue learning about new things–you never know when it might help you out in life.

Take responsibility for yourself
Perhaps in your 20s you could get away with shrinking from responsibilities or blaming others for your mistakes. Well, not anymore. Take ownership of your own actions and choices that you make in life from now on. Late for a meeting? You are responsible for not leaving the house earlier; not because there was a traffic jam. Made a mistake in a report? You are responsible for not checking it thoroughly enough; not because your subordinate messed up. This is the perfect time where you put the experiences in your 20s to good use.

Surround yourself with positive people
Life is short–there is absolutely no time to deal with people who constantly bring you down. Recognise the people who can motivate and encourage you to do better in life. You have no obligations to stay in toxic relationships or a depressing work environment out of loyalty. Remember this: You are the average of the five people that you surround yourself with daily.

Take charge of your finances
It is critical to take charge of your finances–the earlier you do it, the better off you will be in the future. Other than putting aside a portion of your income as savings, consider investing as part of your wealth accumulation. If you’re unsure of where to start, consult a professional financial advisor.
