We all love weekends.
Unless you have to work during those days.Â
My bad.

But now let me tell you something we all (mostly) hate as Singaporeans: train maintenance or breakdowns.
You can almost hear the angry mobs whip their phones out to complain when something like that happens.
(Un)Luckily, if you take the North-East Line (NEL), this time you got informed early.
So don’t raise your pitchforks too fast.
Early Closure On NEL
You may want to skip out on late-night drinking a bit next month.
Five stations on the (NEL) will close earlier on some days next month, namely Kovan, Hougang, Buangkok, Sengkang and Punggol MRT stations.
This is due to track maintenance and component replacement works for the train line’s power and signalling systems, SBS transit mentioned on 17 October.
It’s not all terrible at least, SBS has this pretty well planned out.
Train services from Serangoon station to HarbourFront station will be extended to 12.15 am.

Posters should also be up around the affected MRT stations so don’t blame us if you miss it there too.
Or maybe don’t say…bojio?
Bus Services
So maybe there are cases where your calculations are slightly off the mark and you narrowly miss the trains.
Don’t worry, it’s all planned.
Commuters travelling between Serangoon and Punggol stations can still reach their destinations by using a dedicated shuttle bus service, Shuttle 21.

The service also comes around every two to five minutes so you shouldn’t be waiting for too long.
The operating hours of bus service 325 will also be extended, with its last bus departing Hougang Central Bus Interchange at 12.50 am.
All standard fares apply, by the way.
The writer silently weeps, knowing he has to pay the transport fee in the end.
Much like SBS’ advice, it’s better to plan your time ahead knowing all of this.

Unless you have enough Grab points for a free taxi ride, I suggest taking public transport is still the cheaper alternative.
