PM Lee To Testify In Court If Defamation Suit Against Terry Xu Goes To Trial 

PM Lee’s press secretary, Chang Li Lin, said in a statement that he will testify in court if his defamation suit against Mr Xu goes to trial.

The article published repeated allegations made by Mr Lee’s siblings in the Oxley Road dispute. However, PM Lee claims that the article’s allegations were “completely false”.

He is claiming damage, and a serious warning to restrain Mr Xu from publishing or spreading any allegations to the public.

Mr Xu, however, felt that his article was not defamatory and is prepared to go to court.

Lorry Driver Jailed For Assaulting E-Scooter Rider In Front Of Daughter

Mr Tan Kok Kheng, 52, was sentenced to 30 days’ jail term on Tuesday (10 September 2019) for assaulting Mr Muhammad Syukor Rosland, 31, on 10 April 2017.

Mr Tan took to punching Mr Syukor’s face after the two narrowly avoided an accident, displaying the violent scene in front of the latter’s daughter.

A bystander made a police report, and Mr Tan has been arrested.

Mr Tan has since paid $1,000 for Mr Syukor’s medical fee and $300 for damaging the e-scooter and was sentenced to 30 days’ jail.

Marathoner Soh Rui Yong Files Defamation Writ Against Singapore Athletics in High Court

National marathoner Soh Rui Yong filed a defamation writ and statement of claim against Singapore Athletics (SA) in the High Court on 11 September.

The Singapore National Olympic Council had previously rejected Soh’s nomination by SA as he had not displayed acceptable conduct.

According to SA, Soh had on several occasions broke SA’s code of conduct several times, and had to be counselled by the national sports association for his transgressions.

Soh claimed that SA’s statement was “false and defamatory” to him and demanded “damages for libel, including aggravated damages”.

Man Jailed For Lifting Stepson By Neck; Slamming Him Into Clothespile

A 28-year-old man was making himself a drink one day, and he spotted his stepson looking into the kitchen.

When he got irritated and questioned his son, the man went over and lifted him by the neck before throwing him into a clothes pile.

The boy was taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where he was found to be uninjured.

The man was sentenced to four months’ jail in the State Courts on Tuesday, 10 September 2019, after pleading guilty to one charge of ill-treatment of a child.

He could have been jailed up to four years, or fined up to $4,000, or both.

One E-Scooter Rider Fined, Another Jailed After Victims Suffered Fractures In Separate Incidents

Prime mover driver Tan Gim Moh, 61, was sentenced on Wednesday, 11 September to 18 days’ jail.

He had caused grievous hurt to part-time sales executive Tan Peck Lay, 58, being unable to move out of the way when he realise he was on the same path as her.

Though Mr Tan initially refused to provide his info, he gave in when he was pressured.

The second case involves Tham Chee Boon, 36, who was fined $3,500 on Wednesday following a near-collision with a pedestrian.

The shock caused Yeo Eng Koong, 53, to fall back and crack her skull.
